Tyler Reddick Las Vegas 2016 Recap

Tyler Reddick (@TylerReddick) had a big Saturday night in Sin City. Reddick grabbed the lead from Cole Custer and led the final 44 laps to score his first victory of the 2016 season in the DC Solar 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The win was Reddick’s third in 58 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races and 10th top-10 finish this season.  He gave Brad Keselowski Racing the team’s first win on an intermediate size track and paired with teammate Daniel Hemric for the company’s first 1-2 finish.  BKR has now won at least one NCWTS race for five consecutive seasons, dating back to 2012.

Reddick started the 146-lap race from the 16th starting position but wasted no time getting to the front.  At the drop of the initial green flag, Reddick picked off six positions to climb inside the top 10 on the first lap of the race.  He continued to slice his way through traffic during the opening segment of the race.  Reddick was fifth by lap 12 and made a bold three-wide pass around Ben Kennedy and a lapped truck to take the lead on lap 33.  He held the lead until the Caution Clock expired on lap 39, bringing out the race’s first yellow.

Reddick made a four-tire stop under caution on lap 40 and restarted in second place when the race went green.  During the next segment of the race, he passed Ben Kennedy for the lead on 44 and exchanged the top spot with Hemric before setting into second position on lap 58.  He stayed in his teammate’s tire tracks until the third and final yellow of the race waved on lap 95, once again for an expired Caution Clock. Reddick pitted for four tires and fuel one lap later.  Lightning-quick service by the Cooper Standard team gave Reddick the lead on lap 96.

Over the final 50 laps, Reddick would lead all but one circuit.  Cole Custer grabbed the lead on lap 102 but one lap later, Reddick would grab the top spot and he never looked back. As the laps trickled away, Reddick steadily moved away from his rivals.

The defining moments of the stretch to the checkered flag came in the form of lapped traffic on lap 124, just 22 laps from the finish.  Reddick efficiently worked his way around the slower trucks and steadily drove away, crossing the finish line 1.404 seconds ahead of Hemric.
