Daniel Hemric Las Vegas 2016 Recap

Daniel Hemric tied his career-best finish and rounded out Brad Keselowski Racing’s first 1-2 finish in team history at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Hemric ran in the top five for almost the entire event, leading twice for 38 laps before crossing the finish line second, just behind teammate Tyler Reddick. BKR dominated the evening in Sin City, leading seven times for a total of 108 laps in the 146-lap event.

Hemric laid down the fastest practice lap of the weekend, leading opening practice and running second in the final session before qualifying sixth for the DC Solar 350. By the completion of the first lap, Hemric had already worked his way up to the fourth position.

Running in the top five until the Caution Clock brought out the yellow on lap 39, Hemric reported to crew chief Chad Kendrick that his No. 19 Blue Gate Bank Ford F-150 was tight center exit and that his right-front tire was really sliding by the end of the run. Kendrick called for four tires, fuel and both track-bar and air-pressure adjustments, and fast work by the pit crew had Hemric back on the track in third place.

Green-flag racing resumed on lap 44, and by lap 45, Hemric had wheeled his truck up to the lead. Back to second when the yellow flag was displayed on lap 51, Hemric told his crew that his truck’s handling was “way better,” and the team opted to stay out on the track during the caution period. By lap 58, Hemric once again took over the point position, this time leading the pack for 37 laps.

The Caution Clock expired for the final time on lap 95, and Hemric told Kendrick that his truck was really good in clean air but still a tiny bit too tight. For their final stop, the BKR crew performed a track-bar adjustment in addition to providing their driver with four tires and fuel, and Hemric returned to the track in the second position.

Hemric challenged his teammate for the win but ultimately crossed the finish line in second place. Hemric gained one position in the Chase battle, but still remains 15 points behind the cutoff for the Round of 6.
