Townley Finishes 12th North of the Border

It was mission accomplished for John Wes Townley on Sunday at Canadian Tire Motorsports in Bowmanville, Ontario as the veteran driver brought the No. 05 Jive Communications/Zaxby’s Chevrolet home to a 12th-place finish in the Chevrolet Silverado 250.

After starting 21st in the 66 lap race, Townley went into conservative mode at the start before slowly picking up the pace and breaking into the Top 10 in the running order just past the halfway point.

On the final restart of the race, Townley found himself just outside of the Top 10. He managed to avoid the carnage of two separate incidents on the final lap to register his second consecutive 12th-place finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

“It was nothing fancy, but our goal was to keep the leaders in sight and finish on the lead lap,” said the 26-year-old Townley, whose lone career victory in the Truck Series came at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last fall. “I’ve been in the sport a long time now, but road courses definitely aren’t my strength.

“I grew up racing on ovals and that’s always been my forte. But I enjoy racing on road courses, even though it is a challenge.”

With the Truck Series idle this weekend, Townley will shift gears and climb into his ARCA car on Saturday at Salem Speedway in Indiana.

“Out of all the short tracks I race at, Salem Speedway is at the top of my list of favorites,” said Townley, who finished seventh after leading early in ARCA action at Salem Speedway in April.

“That race track has a lot of character and it’s tough on tires. But for some reason, it fits my driving style. I can’t wait to get there on Saturday.”

The Eddie Gilstrap Motorsports Fall Classic at Salem Speedway will go green shortly after 8 p.m. eastern on Saturday Sep. 10th and will air live on the American Sports Network.
