The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race started late after showers fell around the 1.25-mile Gateway Motorsports Park. After several red flags and cautions – Christopher Bell ended the night in victory lane.
Bell led three different times for a total of 37 laps around the oval after starting the day in ninth. The young driver will walk away with his second career win in the series and now holds five top five and eight top 10 finishes through 16 starts.
Ben Rhodes will leave Gateway with his best career finish of second. His previous best came last weekend at Iowa Speedway when he took his No. 41 Alpha Energy Solutions Toyota to a fourth-place finish. The young driver also started on the pole for the first time of his Camping World Truck Series career by leading both practices on Saturday with qualifying washed out.
Daniel Hemric rounded out the top three finishers at Gateway when the race ended. Hemric started the night in 13th behind the wheel of his No. 19 BK Racing Ford. The North Carolina native now holds seven career top five and 20 top 10 finishes since making his Camping World Truck Series debut in 2013.
Erik Jones and Cameron Hayley brought out the first caution at lap 24 over in turn three. Jones, who made his first Camping World Truck Series start of 2016, will leave with a fifth place finish. Hayley, a native of Canada, left the track with a 24th place finish.
Teammates would collide at lap 71 as Daniel Hemric and Tyler Reddick made contact over in three. Reddick will leave the 1.25-mile oval with a 25th place finish in his No. 29 Ford.
John Wes Townley and Spencer Gallagher offered the crowed some excitement as they would cross paths two different times. The first one occurred at lap 143 and once again at lap 153. The end result was a fracas over in turn one that ended in a fight between the two drivers. Townley was called to the NASCAR hauler following the race.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will take a weekend off next week and return at Kentucky Speedway on July 7. Coverage will begin at 8:30 P.M. ET. live on FOX Sports 1 and Motor Racing Network.
