NCWTS: Rain Washes Out Qualifying at Gateway

Rain forced the cancelation of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series qualifying on Saturday at Gateway Motorsports Park. NASCAR will set the field per rulebook by combined practice speeds.

This will give Ben Rhodes the pole for the Drivin’ for Linemen 200 at Gateway. Rhodes led both practice sessions this morning at the 1.25-mile oval. Rhodes will start on the pole for the second time of his career.

Johnny Sauter will take the green flag in the second starting position in the No. 21 Chevrolet. Sauter posted the second fastest time in final practice earlier this morning with a 33.208 seconds, 135.150 mph. It will mark the third front row start in 2016 for the series veteran.

Rounding out the top three will be William Byron. Byron enters the weekend as the hottest Camping World Truck Series driver after scoring the win in the last two races at Texas and Iowa. The young driver will chase his fourth career victory of the season in the Drivin’ for Linemen 200.

Rico Abreu will start at the rear for a crash earlier in the day at Gateway. Abreu got loose over in turn two and made contact with the outside wall. He will drop to the rear from the 23rd starting spot.

Defending race winner Cole Custer will start the event in eighth. The young driver for JR Motorsports holds two victories, six top five and 13 top 10 finishes after 27 series starts.

No drivers failed to make the race as 32 drivers and teams showed up.
