Daniel Hemric Kansas Speedway Recap 2016

Daniel Hemric (@DanielHemric) earned his career-best NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) finish in his second start at Kansas Speedway. 
 
Starting in ninth position, Hemric survived a long, caution-filled race, fighting his way into the top five and crossing the finish line third in overtime laps.  The finish vaults him from seventh to second in the series championship standings, eight points behind the leader.    
 
After laying down practice speed laps of 12th, fourth and eighth in the weekend’s three practice sessions, Hemric advanced to the second round of knockout qualifying, posting the ninth-fastest lap. 
 
From the initial green flag, Hemric quickly advanced up to the fifth position before the first caution flag of the night waved on lap 3. 
 
When racing resumed, the field remained green until the expiration of the Caution Clock on lap 45. Reporting to crew chief Chad Kendrick that he started off free but had tightened up significantly over the run, Kendrick called Hemric down pit road for four tires, fuel and air-pressure adjustments. Restarting in the 11th position on lap 48, a string of five back-to-back cautions occurred over the next 31 laps. 
 
Hemric was scored in the ninth position when the field finally began another long green-flag run on lap 83, working his way up to sixth before the Caution Clock expired for the second time on lap 122. 
 
Feeling that his Oakmont Management Group Ford F-150 had progressively gotten too free, he pitted for four tires, fuel and a track-bar adjustment. With just under 40 laps remaining in the event, Hemric fought his way through a wild pack at the front of the field, putting him in the fourth position when a caution on lap 165 set up the field for a NASCAR Overtime finish. 
 
The closing laps of the event were the most chaotic yet, with trucks going three, four and five wide in an attempt to gain position. Hemric made a valiant effort to make a pass for the win and avoided a crash on the final lap which wiped out two of the leaders, crossing the finish line in the third position, earning his career-best NCWTS finish.
