Bowyer Posts Top-Five NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Finish for GMS Racing at Kansas Speedway

Clint Bowyer, driver of the No. 24 Georgia Boot Chevrolet, joined GMS Racing for the fourth race on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule as Kansas Speedway. Bowyer started from the 16th position in Friday night’s event and earned a fifth-place finish in his first NCWTS start since 2014.

Like many drivers in the field, Bowyer fought a tight-handling condition for most of the event. Crew chief Joey Cohen brought him to pit road for the first time on lap 46, during the second caution of the night, for tires, fuel and air pressure and track back adjustments. The No. 24 returned to the track in the 13th position. Two laps after the lap 48 restart, Bowyer made his way into the top 10 but reported that the No. 24 was too tight in traffic and slipped back outside of the top 10 just before the seventh caution of the night on lap 79. It only took two laps after the lap-82 restart for the No. 24 Georgia Boot Chevrolet to re-enter the top 10.

With 30 laps remaining, Bowyer raced into the top five. Bowyer lined up in the No. 24 Georgia Boot Chevrolet in the fifth position for the second instance of overtime in the 2016 NCWTS season and avoided a last lap incident involving teammate Johnny Sauter. Bowyer crossed the start-finish line in the fifth position under the race-ending caution to claim his second NCWTS top-five finish as Kansas Speedway.

“Man, that was a fun race. We started the race loose and it tightened up pretty quick, but Joey (Cohen, crew chief) and the boys made some nice adjustments to get the Georgia Boot Chevrolet running better on the long runs. GMS Racing has put together such a great program that we knew we would be running in the top five by the end. I wish the race had ended with us in Victory Lane, but I’m happy with where we ended up.”
