Shane Lee leaves Martinsville itching for more

Shane Lee earns a 17th place finish in his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start. Three practice sessions on Friday was all Lee had to learn how to drive the 650 horsepower truck around the 0.526-mile Martinsville Speedway.

“It was a big learning curve for sure,” said Lee following Friday’s final practice session. “Practice is very fast paced and the pit/garage area at Martinsville (Speedway) is a tight work area.”

Shane Lee would qualify 28th for the Alpha Energy Resources 250 in his first attempt at knockout qualifying. “It’s not the qualifying effort I was hoping for but we’re in the race and have 250 laps to move forward” said Lee following qualifying.

When the green flag flew for the first time Lee was able to get down into the preferred inside line and get into his own rhythm. Lee would battle for position inside the top-20 before losing a lap to the leaders. Lee would race his own race battling for the lucky dog position and finally got back on the lead lap when the caution came inside 50 laps remaining. Lee knew this would be his time to capitalize and race for a solid finish in his NCWTS debut, Lee would be able to miss several near collisions and come home with a 17th place, lead-lap finish.

“This was without a doubt a team effort” said Lee. “Everyone offered their advise in helping me get around this place from and we are able to leave wanting to race another 250 laps. Jamie (Jones) provide me a great truck, Bobby Dotter, Stevie Reeves, and Jason White provide me with great insight all weekend long and I feel like I really learned a lot and I cant wait to race this truck again at Gateway.”

Looking out the windshield… Shane Lee will be back on track in the ARCA Racing Series next weekend at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, his next NCWTS start will be Gateway Motorsports Park on June 25th
