MB Motorsports Makes Maiden Voyage To Talladega

MB Motorsports, one of the original NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ teams, is set to make its Talladega Superspeedway debut in the Coca-Cola 250 Powered by fred’s.  The #63 SealWrap / Operation Homefront Ford F-150 will once again be driven by Jack Smith, who will be making his first start on a superspeedway.

“There are certain tracks every driver dreams of having a chance to race at and Talladega is definitely one of them,” says Smith.  “So many things come into play at Talladega that it’s almost impossible to put together a perfect plan.  The balance on the truck has to be just right or you’re going to be fighting it all day and the last thing you want to have to do when you’re running door to door in a 30 truck pack is be fighting a poor handling race truck.”

According to team owner Mike Mittler, “Our team has raced at Daytona a few times, but since the series started racing at Talladega back in ’06, we’ve just never had the opportunity.  Thankfully, we have the good folks at SealWrap with us this year, so now we’re off to tackle the biggest track we’ve ever been to.  We’ll have our military personnel from Operation Homefront there to bring us some good luck, too.”

Because the team has focused on the series’ intermediate tracks, getting ready for Talladega meant lots of hours getting the superspeedway truck ready.  “Jack and the crew have put in a ton of hours hanging the body, working on the set up, doing everything we can to make this truck as fast as can be,” according to Mittler.  “We want to make sure the SealWrap / Operation Homefront Ford is as competitive as it possibly can.”

Race fans can join MB Motorsports and SealWrap in supporting Operation Homefront by texting HERO to 50555 to make an automatic $5 donation.  Fans can also contact their local Operation Homefront chapter to donate or volunteer.  SealWrap has pledged to match race fans’ donations up to $10,000.

Operation Homefront provides direct services to alleviate a military family’s or individual’s actual/complete emergency financial burden, as well as counseling and/or recovery support. Emergency financial assistance is in the form of checks paid directly to mortgage lenders, auto mechanics, contractors, hospitals, doctors, dentists and other providers. Other emergency funding assistance, which an applicant receives within 24 to 72 hours, includes the following financial assistance, emergency food, emergency home repairs, critical baby items: formula, food and diapers, home and appliance repair, furniture and household items, local moving assistance, community events, Wounded Warrior transitional family housing and more.

MIKE MITTLER’S THOUGHTS ON THE COCA-COLA 250 POWERED BY FRED’S TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY: “You never know what you’re getting into when you race at a superspeedway, other than the odds are going to be stacked against you even more than they normally are.  You know going into it that there’s probaby going to be a big wreck and whether you’re out front or in the back of the pack, you can get caught up in it.  And since you don’t know when the big one is going to happen, the importance of every pit call is magnified.  In the end, all you can do is put forth your best effort, race as smart as you can and accept the fact that some days it’s better to be lucky than good. That said, after all of the effort that has been put into this truck, I’m expecting good things for the #63 SealWrap / Operation Homefront MB Motorsports Ford.”

MIKE MITTLER’S THOUGHTS ON OPERATION HOMEFRONT:  “I’m a big supporter of our military and Operation Homefront does wonderful work to help the families of those who risk their lives to protect our freedom.  While our men and women who serve our country make sacrifices to do so, so do their families.  I’m grateful for the work Operation Homefront does to make sure these families are supported and know that we appreciate and value them.  I hope a lot of face fans text HERO to 50555 to make a $5 donation to Operation Homefront.”

JACK SMITH’S THOUGHTS ON THE COCA-COLA 250 POWERED BY FRED’S TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY: “When the green flag flies on Saturday and the SealWrap / Operation Homefront Ford is on its way, I will have realized one of the goals I have had since I first sat in a race car.  Just having the opportunity to race at this level is amazing, but there are certain tracks that have such a tremendous history to them, you can’t wait to get there.  If we can roll our truck back onto the hauler, looking as it good as it does now, we’ll be in great shape.”
