Timothy Peters Gets Lucky on Friday the 13th with Phoenix Win

Timothy Peters didn’t have any bad luck on Friday the 13th as he earned his second victory in four races and his 10th career win in the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway. In the only practice session of the weekend, held Thursday afternoon, Peters was 12th on the board. On Friday, Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team advanced to the third and final round of knockout, group qualifying, securing the 10th starting spot for the 150-lap event. The veteran driver avoided several early wrecks, quickly moving up into the top 10. By lap 50 he had battled his way into the fourth position. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called Peters to pit road twice under caution, once on lap 39 for two Goodyear tires, Sunoco racing fuel and adjustments and again on lap 103 for four tires, fuel and adjustments. On lap 121, the Danville, Virginia native was running fourth when the three trucks in front of him collided, leaving Peters the leader after NASCAR displayed the red flag for track clean up. Peters took the green flag at the front of the pack in his red and white Tundra and never looked back, holding off a late-race challenge for the lead to secure his 10th career victory.

Timothy Peters Quotes:
How did you win this race?
“Chris Lambert (spotter) kept me alert and was integral to see what was going on. How about Toyota clinching the manufacturer championship tonight – that’s awesome. Thank you Toyota for what you do for Red Horse Racing. Thank the good Lord, thank this team, Toyota, Triad Horsepower. We were a top-five truck tonight and we earned this one – this is just awesome.”

What went through your mind on the final restart?
“The track was still pretty slick, pretty oily when they gave us the one to go. We were getting a little tight on the corner exit, we were trying not to over drive on the entry. In case people are wondering about what my hat is, it’s for my sunglasses. Thanks to Tom DeLoach (team owner) for giving me this opportunity. It’s just a great day.”

How does it feel to win tonight?
“Thank you to the good Lord for being with us tonight and for blessing us. How about Toyota for clinching the manufacturer championship tonight. So great and proud to be a part of the Toyota Racing family. Thanks to Tom DeLoach (team owner), Red Horse Racing and all the guys back at the shop. What an amazing night.”
