Ruben Pardo Looks For Success Again At Phoenix International Raceway

Veteran NASCAR Mexico Series driver Ruben Pardo is used to success at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.

But, on Friday night at the 1.0-mile oval in the Lucas Oil 150, Pardo in the No. 1 BYBExtreme.com Chevrolet Silverado for MAKE Motorsports in association with Rick Ware Racing looks to hone his racing skills with a solid finish in the penultimate NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race of the season.

Pardo scored his fourth career NASCAR Mexico Series win at Phoenix earlier this year, and while the longtime Hispanic race car driver knows duplicating that success in one of NASCAR’s top three national series won’t be easy, he’s hoping for a successful campaign to end his 2015 season on a high note.

“I’m just thankful for this opportunity to be back racing at Phoenix and especially in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series,” Pardo said. “Our truck was pretty solid in practice on Thursday and I hope with the adjustments we make, we can be a little closer for the race Friday night.”

The 36-year-old driver made his NCWTS debut in September at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where after qualifying 22nd, he finished a respectable 21st in the UNOH 175.

“When you think about it, you can take some similarities between New Hampshire and Phoenix,” he said. “Not a lot, but some. The most important thing for me was to be back in a truck and figuring out what we needed to do to be consistently consistent and have the opportunity to earn the best finish possible for BYB Extreme Fighting Series and MAKE Motorsports.”

In the series’ lone practice session Thursday afternoon at PIR, Pardo clocked in 24th quickest overall in a group of 36 competitors.

“It’s all about finding that balance and comfort,” he explained. “We made some steady gains in practice and I think with the changes we’ve made since then, it will allow us to have a KO’ performance in qualifying.”

Of course, for his second go-around in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Pardo is keeping his goals realistic with the hope of racing more in NASCAR’s top-three series next season.

“All things considered, we’d be ecstatic with a top-20 finish,” he said. “We put this program for Phoenix together really at the last hour, so to do what we’ve done so far has kinda exceeded the expectations. I just need to stay focused behind the wheel and do my job to bring the best finish home for BYB Extreme Fighting Series and the team.”

Coming up, BYB’s Dada 500 will take on Kimbo Slice in a grueling match on Feb. 19 in Houston, Texas. Dada 500 will attend the Ford EcoBoost 300 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway next Saturday, Nov. 21 with several BYB fighters.

In addition to the NCWTS event Friday night at PIR, Pardo will also compete in Saturday’s DAV 200 NASCAR XFINITY Series race driving the No. 13 BYB Extreme Fighting Series Dodge Charger.

Qualifying for the Lucas Oil 150 is set for race day, Friday, November 13 at 10:45 a.m. local. The 150-lap / 150-mile event is scheduled to lift off after 8:30 p.m. Eastern live on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio Channel 90.
