Engine issues hinder Tyler Young during hometown showing

Ending Thursday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) practice sessions 17th and 14th, respectively, Tyler Young, driver of the No. 02 Young's Building Systems/Randco Industries Chevrolet had high hopes heading into qualifying Friday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. However, a blown engine in Round 1 of 2, forced the Midland, Texas native to start Friday night's WinStar World Casino 350k from the 29th position.

Gaining nine positions on just the first lap of the 147-lap event, Young had a tire go down on his Chevrolet Silverado, forcing him to pit road on lap 5. Ensuring there were no further issues, the sophomore driver returned to the track, six laps down in 29th.

Making his way up to the 25th position, the race's only caution flag would wave, on lap 55, allowing Young to come to pit road for four tires, fuel and a tug on the right front fender to guarantee that the fender was not rubbing the tire.

Fighting a Chevrolet Silverado that grew "tighter as a green flag run progressed," crew chief Bryan Berry called Young down pit road once again, under green, for four tires, fuel and adjustments, on lap 101. Able to snag a couple more positions on track, Young would go on to finish 23rd, 11 laps down to eventual race winner, Erik Jones.

"The guys really worked hard this weekend, and I hate it that we don't have results to show that. The engine issues in qualifying put us behind from the beginning. Then, I blew a tire early in the race, and it knocked the tow out, I don't know how, but afterwards we were just along for the ride. We also had more engine issues with the backup motor we put in for the race. We'll go back to the shop and figure it out though. It's just unfortunate. We come here twice a year and want to put a good show on, but we didn't. We'll regroup, and hopefully run a lot better in Phoenix next week."
