NCWTS: Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner! John Wes Townley Captures First Career Win at Las Vegas

John Wes Townley captured his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory on Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Townley took the lead with five laps remaining when race leader Matt Crafton ran out of fuel. Townley was then able to conserve while other drivers ran out of fuel in the final few laps of the event. The performance gives the 25-year old his first career NASCAR national Series win in 160 combined Camping World Truck and XFINITY Series starts.

Timothy Peters will take home a runner-up finish in his No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota. Peters led the field for a total of 13 laps and ran at the front for the entire race. The North Carolina native has five top five and 11 top 10 finishes going into the weekend off. Peters has not captured a victory in the Camping World Truck Series since last season at Talladega.

Ben Kennedy crossed the line in third when the 146-lap race ended on Saturday at Las Vegas. Kennedy stayed inside the top 10 for most of the evening after taking the green in ninth. The Florida driver goes into Talladega in two weeks with three top five and six top 10 finishes this season.

The top three drivers in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standings ended the night in the seventh, eighth, and ninth positions when the checkered flag waved. Tyler Reddick finished the highest in seventh after being involved in an early wreck with teammate Austin Theriault. Crafton and Erik Jones rounded out the eighth and ninth positions when the race ended. This will give Jones a four point lead over Crafton. Reddick will continue to sit in third by 16 points behind the leader. Johnny Sauter and Daniel Hemric will round out the top five.

Theriault had to be airlifted to an area hospital for further evaluations after taking a vicious hit into the outside retaining wall. Theriault was placed onto a stretcher after climbing out of his vehicle and placed into an ambulance. Team will provide updates on the latest of his condition.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will make a return at the Talladega Superspeedway on October 24th. Coverage will begin on FOX Sports 1 at 1:00 p.m. ET. The Motor Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast.
