In his first excursion north of the border to Canada, Spencer Gallagher, driver of the No. 23 Alamo Rent A Car Chevrolet Silverado, earned his fourth top-10 finish of the 2015 season in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) road course debut. Gallagher methodically worked his way into the top 10, and ran there for the bulk of the 64-lap contest at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP) to score an eighth-place finish.
Aided by a strong run in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race earlier in the day, Gallagher put the additional track time and experience to good use from the drop of the green flag at CTMP. Gallagher started from the 14th position, and ran confidently inside the top 15 until his first scheduled pit stop on lap nine for Sunoco race fuel. During the first caution period on lap 15, Gallagher relayed to the Alamo Rent A Car team that he was dealing with a tight condition in each corner of the 2.459-mile circuit.
Crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz’s fuel strategy to “run the race backwards” called for Gallagher to hit pit road for the second, and final time under green on lap 36. Gallagher pitted from the 10th position for four tires, fuel, and an adjustment to aid the tight balance. Once the pit stops had cycled, Gallagher rejoined the top 10 during a lap 45 caution flag. Over the race’s final 16 laps, multiple restarts and the typical physical style of road course racing dominated the landscape. As laps clicked off, Gallagher solidified his running position near the front, posting his fastest lap of the event just prior to the race’s final caution.
The first-time road racer took advantage of numerous mistakes made by competitors over the final 11 circuits to advance to his eighth-place finishing position. Gallagher maintained his ninth-place position in the NCWTS drivers point standings after the 15th race of his rookie campaign.

“Running double duty was a really big benefit to me this weekend. We had a solid, consistent Alamo Rent A Car Silverado today, and Jeff (Stankiewicz) had a good strategy in place to keep the track position we had for the final fuel run. At road courses, especially, so much of how fast you are is determined by laps and experience. Every additional lap we turned this weekend really showed in the race today. We needed a good finish for our entire GMS Racing team, and we were able to get one. This is a good momentum booster for our team heading into the off weekends, and we’ll be ready with another fast Alamo Rent A Car Chevrolet at Chicagoland (Speedway) in a few weeks.”
