Late-Race Accident Relegates Ty Dillon to 23rd-Place Finish at Bristol

Racing with NTS Motorsports for the first time in 2015, Ty Dillon posted a 23rd-place finish on Wednesday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. Spending nearly half the race inside the top 10 with his No. 31 GunBroker.com Chevrolet Silverado, Dillon got caught up in a multi-truck incident just three laps shy of the scheduled distance to bring his night to an early finish.

Visiting the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) for the first time since 2013, Dillon utilized two practice sessions to reacquaint himself with how the trucks handled on the short track. Working closely with his GunBroker.com team, the group made several changes throughout the two sessions until they ultimately finished final practice in the third position.

After rolling off 23rd for the 200-lap race, Dillon worked closely with his team to assess the handling of his GunBroker.com Chevrolet during the early stages of the race. Following some minor adjustments during the opening two pit stops, the GunBroker.com team was able to dial in their Silverado, allowing Dillon to restart in the fifth position by lap 89. Dillon was able to steadily maintain his position inside the top 10 through lap 160, but made the decision to come down pit road once again during the lap-161 caution. Moments later, rain arrived in the area and led the field to a 45-minute red flag period. Set up for a dash to the finish, the field was filled with two- and three-wide racing around the short track. Contact between Dillon and another truck while exiting Turn 2 on lap 197 ultimately led to Dillon spinning his truck in Turn 3. With damage to both the front and back end of the truck and just three scheduled laps remaining in the event, Dillon returned to the garage area where he was credited with a 23rd-place result.

Ty Dillon on Bristol Motor Speedway:

“It was a rough weekend, but we got better in the race and we were able to race hard. We might have had a shot at a top-10 finish, but we got caught up in an incident where another driver tried to take it three-wide driving through lapped traffic. Unfortunately, we tore up a truck. I have to thank everybody at GunBroker.com and NTS Motorsports for giving me this opportunity. We got better and better as the night went on, and hopefully we helped the program. It was great to see our teammate, Daniel Hemric, have a good night. I’m proud of the hard work that everyone put in; tonight’s finish definitely wasn’t for a lack of effort.”
