Tyler Reddick Kentucky Speedway Recap

The UNOH 225 was Tyler Reddick’s biggest challenge as a NASCAR competitor and the young driver responded with a respectable sixth place finish.

Reddick (@TylerReddick) made his first start at Kentucky Speedway without the benefit of a single lap of practice.  Further complicating matters was the fact that Goodyear used a different tire compound for the race.

It was a set of circumstances that would make even a veteran driver shudder.

Reddick overcame all those obstacles to collect his eighth top 10 finish of the season.  He remains second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, 20 points behind the leader.

Reddick started second and led the first four laps of the race but quickly discovered that his truck was very loose.  He was running fourth when the first caution gave him the opportunity to pit on lap 22.  Crew Chief Doug Randolph changed right side tires and Reddick cycled back to the lead on lap 23 and held the top spot for the next eight laps.  Once again his truck began to get loose and he settled into second place.

He was second when the third caution came out on lap 45 and pitted one lap later for four tires and a round of adjustments.  Tyler restarted sixth when the green waved on lap 48.

Once again Reddick fought a loose handling truck, forcing him to settle into eighth place by lap 57.  He maintained that position until he made a scheduled stop under green on lap 101 for four tires and more adjustments.

The fourth caution slowed the field on lap 103 and Tyler lined up seventh for the restart on lap 107.  He was running seventh on lap 112 when his truck broke loose off Turn 2 dropping him back to 11th in the running order.

He was 13th when the fifth yellow slowed the race on lap 127.  Reddick did not pit under this caution and moved up to second place for the restart on lap 132.  He briefly grabbed the lead and was running third when the sixth caution came out on lap 134.

The following restart on lap 136 wasn’t nearly as kind to Reddick.  Starting on the inside lane he got shuffled back to fifth place.  The seventh caution set up one final restart on lap 144.  Reddick was once again bitten by the inside line, getting shuffled back to sixth place.  He was running sixth when the eighth and final yellow waved on lap 145 for a crash involving Ben Kennedy on lap 145 that damaged the catchfence in Turn 1.  The damage forced NASCAR officials to end the race five laps short of the scheduled 150-lap distance.  Reddick was credited with a sixth place finish in the final rundown.
