Gallagher shows strength in Kentucky debut

Spencer Gallagher’s track debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) at Kentucky Speedway came to a premature finish after being involved in a late-race accident, finishing 24th. The driver of the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet is tied for eighth in NCWTS points following the 10th race of the season.

As practice and qualifying fell victim to the whim of Mother Nature, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender took the green flag in the UNOH 225 with zero laps under his belt at the bumpy 1.5 mile tri-oval. Gallagher started from the eighth position and comfortably raced inside the top 15 for the majority of event’s first half. While Gallagher battled a free condition for most of the night, he stayed on the lead lap and continuously battled for position inside the top 10.

Quick pit work on a green flag pit cycle by the Allegiant Travel team past the halfway mark vaulted him into the top 10 for a restart on lap 108. Gallagher lined up on the undesirable inside lane for several late restarts and found himself fighting to rejoin the top 10. On lap 140, contact with the No. 05 truck sent Gallagher’s Chevrolet spinning into Turn 1 and made heavy contact with the outside wall, which relegated him to the 24th-place finish. A later incident forced the UNOH 225 to be called official, and Matt Crafton declared the winner, five laps shy of the scheduled distance due to damage to the catchfence.

Next up, Gallagher and the NCWTS head to the storied Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio for the 11th event of the 2015 season on Wednesday, July 22nd.

SPENCER GALLAGHER QUOTE:
“Our Allegiant Travel Chevrolet had some decent speed. We were going to bring home a good finish. I got caught in the crosshairs of a pretty crappy situation and paid a big price for it. I’m all good, and we’ll go to Eldora (Speedway) and run again. I hate that our stretch of good finishes came to an end, but with no practice or qualifying, I thought our GMS Racing team did a good job of unloading well-prepared trucks and racing inside the top 10. I’ve gotten some dirt experience this year, so I can’t wait to put it to good use at Eldora and gain some points back.”
