Tyler Reddick Charlotte Motor Speedway Speedway Recap

The thin line of yellow paint on the right side of Tyler Reddick’s Broken Bow Records Ford F-150 following Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway looked like a mere blemish.

Looks can be deceiving.

Reddick’s (@TylerReddick) contact with the outside SAFER barrier early in the race changed the aerodynamic characteristics of his Ford F-150.  Despite having his hands full with a tight handling truck, Reddick ran inside the top five throughout the race and entered the closing stages of the event with an outside chance to win.

Tyler qualified seventh and jumped up to fourth by lap 6 and ran there until the first caution of the race came out on lap 21.  He pitted on lap 22 for four tires and adjustments and restarted third when the race went green on lap 25.

Reddick settled in line fourth by lap 32 and the truck returned to a tight handling condition by the time the second caution slowed the race on lap 64.  He pitted for four tires and adjustments on lap 65 and restarted fourth on lap 69.

He quickly moved up to third place then settled back into fourth by lap 82 as his truck once again struggled to turn.  By lap 96 Reddick’s truck started to loosen up and he was running fourth when the third yellow flag waved on lap 106, the first of three cautions over the final 33 laps.  One lap later he pitted for four tires and adjustments and, thanks to speedy service on the pit lane, he restarted second.  Tyler had a clean restart and settled into third place.

The fourth caution came out on lap 116 and Reddick survived the ensuing restart on lap 122 to maintain third place.  He was running third when the final caution of the race waved on lap 134, pushing the race to a green-white-checkered finish.  Tyler lined up third for the dash to the finish, but couldn’t turn as well as he wished entering Turn 1 on the final lap, leaving the bottom lane open and shuffling him back to fourth place at the checkered flag.

Reddick scored his fourth top five in five races this season and is third in the series championship standings, 18 points behind the leader.
