Brandon Jones Fights for Strong Finish at Charlotte

Brandon Jones, driver of the No. 33 PROSTOCK Chevrolet, finished the 13th position in Friday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. Jones persevered through several challenges to grab his best finish of the 2015 season.

Jones started the race mid-field and held his position until the first caution of the night on lap 21. Requesting slight adjustments the crew prepared for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment during their first pit stop, only to have the shifter get caught between gears on pit road. An extended stop relegated Jones to the 28th position for the restart. Eventually falling two laps down due to a vibration caused by loose exhaust pipes, Crew Chief Shane Huffman called for a gamble that could put Jones back on the lead lap with enough time to pull out a top-15 finish.

When the caution flag waved on lap 104, the No. 33 truck did not pit. Jones would need to pit once more before the end of the race, but the team was willing to take the wave-around to put them only one lap down while betting on a late race caution. The yellow flew just 10 laps later and Jones received the free pass to put him back on the lead lap in the 18th position. Jones avoided one last scuffle when trucks just in front of him began to spin during the green-white-checkered to close out the race.

BRANDON JONES QUOTE:
“Our PROSTOCK Chevrolet was fast all weekend.  We ended up getting caught a couple laps down early in the race, but we knew our lap times were still good enough to place us in the top 10. Shane (Huffman, crew chief) felt they could get me back on the lead lap, so we gambled a little, but it paid off. The GMS Racing team works hard to bring strong, fast trucks to the track each weekend, so I’m glad I could keep it clean and give them the finish we all deserve.”
