Consistency Nets Gallagher a Season-First Top-10 Finish

The lone NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) event in at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway resulted in the first top-10 of the season for Spencer Gallagher, driving the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet. After bouncing back from a spin in pole qualifying, Gallagher used patience and consistency over the 139 laps to score his best-career non-restrictor plate NCWTS finish.
After slight contact with the outside wall in qualifying, the GMS Racing team made timely repairs to the Allegiant Travel Chevrolet before the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 thanks to prior preparation. Gallagher took the green from the back of the field due to unapproved adjustments, but found himself inside the top 20 by the race’s first caution at lap 21. Battling a tight condition, Gallagher came in for four Goodyear tires, Sunoco race fuel, and a track bar adjustment, and restarted in 12th.
The Las Vegas native’s progress towards the front was temporarily halted after a pit stop under a lap 64 caution when a cut left-front tire brought him back to pit road under yellow. Gallagher quickly climbed back into the top 15, and into the top 10 by lap 110. After precise and poignant adjustments by crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz, Gallagher ran as high as eighth in the race’s closing stages. On the Green-White-Checkered finish, Gallagher survived the three-wide racing and hectic restarts to notch a 10th place finish, his first top-10 of the 2015 season.
Race winner Kasey Kahne captured the 200th NCWTS victory for Chevrolet in the series’ 21st season of competition.
"Those last restarts were just absolutely wild. Everything was a game of getting good position into Turn 1, then you just had to fight it out before the tires started giving up. We were three-wide, stuck in the middle, but brought our Allegiant Travel Chevrolet home with our first top-10 finish of the season, and that’s something we can build on.”
“We spent the whole night freeing the truck up. We needed to go further with our adjustments and it really paid off. On the second-to-last restart, we made a real surge after we improved the handling and earned a solid top-10 tonight.”
