Ray Black Jr. and his No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Silverado team saw their night cut short due to a broken oil pump belt during the Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway. The team was ultimately scored in 21st place.
Black started the night off strong when he qualified 16th, his second-best qualifying effort of his first full rookie season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Once the green flag waved, he raced among the Top-20 while learning the grooves of Kansas Speedway and getting adjustments on his truck.
Black was racing in 14th place on Lap 108 when a red light on the dashboard suddenly came on. Right after radioing it into his crew, he tried slowing the truck down, but the engine had already blown. After further inspection, it was discovered that a broken oil pump belt was the cause of the problem.
“The team did a great job this week. We definitely learned a lot, especially for it being our first time here,” said Black. “It’s disappointing to see the night come to an early end with how hard we worked, but we will continue to move forward and get back at it next week.”
Despite the early end to the night, Black remains in the Top-10 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship Point Standings. He currently sits in ninth place, 63 points behind leader, Matt Crafton.
