NCWTS: Matt Crafton Captures Toyota Tundra 250 Win

Matt Crafton saved just enough fuel to capture his seventh career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory on Saturday at the Kansas Speedway. Crafton led six laps all evening to score his second victory of the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.

Matt Crafton talked about handling the pressure inside the truck, knowing that he could run out at any time.

“I didn’t have pressure on me, I just needed to go out there and go as fast as I could and he (Carl Joiner, crew chief) told me that we couldn’t make it,” Crafton told Speedway Digest. “He said five (laps) to go, four to go, three to go and I’m like, ‘Man, when is he going to bring me down (pit road)?’ I saw all these guys running out of fuel and I thought he was going to bring me down on the white. I figured we were going for it. My job was easy, but I wouldn’t want to be in his position and the guys doing the fuel mileage to run the thing out of fuel and be that guy.”

Ryan Newman stepped back into a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series vehicle for the first time since the Eldora Speedway back in 2013. Newman, driving the No. 8 Chevrolet for NEMCO Motorsports, led two laps of the evening throughout the race to bring home a second-place finish. The racing team hopes this race with Newman behind the wheel will improve the team all around as John Hunter Nemechek takes over the truck in less than two months.

Johnny Sauter brought his No. 98 Toyota to a third-place finish in the Toyota Tundra 250 at the Kansas Speedway. Sauter took home his fifth top-10 finish at the 1.5-mile oval in the Midwest and his fourth top 10 finish of the year.

Matt Crafton will leave the Kansas Speedway with the series points lead by 17 over Tyler Reddick. Erik Jones, who started on the pole and dominated the race upfront all evening, sits one point behind Reddick in third. Johnny Sauter and Cameron Hayley round out the top five.

The next race for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will be next Friday at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Live coverage will begin at 8:30 P.M. ET. on FOX Sports 1. Radio coverage will also be available on the Motor Racing Network.
