NCWTS: Kasey Kahne to Pilot No. 00 Chevrolet at Charlotte

JR Motorsports announced Wednesday that Kasey Kahne will pilot the No. 00 Haas Automation Chevrolet at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 15. This marks just one of the numerous NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races JR Motorsports plans to run.

Kahne will make his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start since the victory at the Rockingham Speedway in 2012. JR Motorsports announced a part-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team at the beginning of the year to allow Cole Custer numerous starts. Kahne has 29 victories across the three NASCAR national series.

“Getting Kasey behind the wheel of the No. 00 is going to be a true asset for the team and Cole,” said Earnhardt Miller in a release. “With Cole’s age, he’s not eligible to compete on some of the bigger tracks, so we had to limit the schedule based on that fact.  This opportunity to have Kasey in the truck will help the team evaluate our program on an intermediate track.  And Kasey’s stats in that series really speak to his talent.”

A native from Washington, Kahne has driven to four victories in five different starts. His only NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start that did not result in a win was back in 2010 at the Pocono Raceway. Even though he did not take it to victory lane, Kahne led 17 laps and finished in the runner-up position.

“I’m looking forward to running the truck race at Charlotte for JR Motorsports,” said Kahne in a release. “They had a fast truck in the Martinsville race and have a great program going over there. Thanks to Kelley, Dale Jr. and Gene Haas for putting this deal together.  I haven’t been in a truck race in a long time, but I always enjoy racing in that series.”

Cole Custer became the youngest winner in the national touring series history last season. Custer raced in his first truck series event in 2015 nearly a month ago at the Martinsville Speedway. He will return to the ride at the Dover International Speedway on May 29.
