NCWTS: JR Motorsports Expanding Into New Territory at Martinsville

JOPLIN, Mo. – JR Motorsports will race in new territory on Saturday at the Martinsville Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Since the team began in 2006, JR Motorsports has competed in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.

The racing team will have Cole Custer behind the wheel of the No. 00 Haas Automation Chevrolet. Custer, 17, is one of the up and coming drivers that will pilot the truck in 10 races throughout 2015.

Custer made his debut at the Martinsville Speedway last season. The young driver made nine starts throughout the year, earning one victory, two top five and six top 10 finishes. He started on the pole twice in those starts.

The driver, a native from California, is looking forward to this weekend and the rest of the year.

“After a long off season, I’m more than ready to get to the racetrack.” said Custer in a press release. “It’s exciting to be coming back at a track like Martinsville with Haas Automation and JR Motorsports. Our goal is to pick up where we left off last year. Martinsville is a place where we have shown speed before and I feel like we can run fast again this weekend. It’s still a learning experience for me. Managing the traffic there will be a challenge. That’s something I’ll be focused on.”

In 2014, Custer put his name into the NASCAR record book twice. He became the youngest pole winner in the top three national series and became the youngest driver in NASCAR history to capture a national series win. At the New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Custer dominated the race by leading 148 of the 175 scheduled laps after starting from the pole to capture the win.

Still unclear whether or not Dale Earnhardt Jr. will make some starts behind the wheel of this truck. The Hendrick Motorsports driver has hinted off and on about crossing over into the series for the first time.
