Track best for Tyler Young at Daytona

Tyler Young, in his sophomore season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), posted a 13th-place finish Friday night piloting the No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado in the NextEra Energy Resources 250. The solid effort was Young’s track-best finish in two starts at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (DIS).

Young placed the AKL Insurance Group/Randco Industries Chevrolet Silverado in the 29th position on the starting grid for the 100 lap/250 mile race on the famed 2.5-mile superspeedway. From the start of the event, Young planned to stay in the rear of the field until the last quarter of the race. That plan paid off for the Midland, Texas native when a multi-truck accident occurred on lap 50, collecting 12 trucks. The team utilized pit strategy, bringing the Young’s Motorsports driver in under caution to top-off with fuel, allowing Young to lead his first lap in the NCWTS in 34 career starts.

Young showed promise of bringing home his first top-10 finish in the final 34 laps as he worked with drivers to draft to the front of the pack. Scored sixth on the final restart, Young’s drafting line didn’t get going, forcing the Young’s Motorsports driver to lose valuable ground and ultimately cross the line in the 13th position behind race winner Tyler Reddick.

“I thought the truck was really good. My guys built this truck in two weeks and it was obviously a really fast Silverado. Unfortunately, we had to start in the back, so we had the theory to just ride around and miss the big one, and we did. When it was time to go, we tried to go, but it seemed like every line we tried to go with didn’t move as good as it should have. The truck is in one piece, and we ran up front when it really mattered. I really wanted to get these guys their first top 10 but it was a solid effort by all. We’ll head to Atlanta next week and try to keep the momentum going.”
