Wrong Place at the Wrong Time; Ben Kennedy Relegated to a 28th-Place Finish at Daytona

Ben Kennedy started the NextEra Energy Resources 250 from the sixth position, but bad luck resulted in a 28th-place finish in Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway. On Thursday, Feb. 19 Kennedy turned the 12th and 11th-quickest laps, respectively, in two practice sessions. The No. 11 Local Motors team returned the following day and claimed the sixth starting position in knockout qualifying. As the sun set over the 2.5-mile superspeedway, Kennedy climbed into the black and white Local Motors Tundra and buckled in for the 2015 season opener and his inaugural race with Red Horse Racing and new partner Local Motors. After the green flag few, he remained inside the top 15 and was working with the outside line to move back towards the front. On lap 14 the truck immediately in front of Kennedy lost a tire and spun, collecting the Local Motors machine. The Daytona Beach, Florida native drove the Tundra to pit road for repairs. Taking the truck behind the wall, the No. 11 team worked relentlessly to return him to the race track on lap 39. Only 10 laps later, a damaged tire sent the Local Motors Tundra hard into the outside wall, ending the night early for the 2014 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year and relegating him to a 28th-place result.

Ben Kennedy Quote:

“We just had terrible luck tonight. I’m really proud of the No. 11 Local Motors guys. They worked hard to get us back out there but we had something else happen and ended up in the wall. They tried to get me back on track again, but there just weren’t enough laps to fix the damage and gain positions. It’s been an exciting week with our Local Motors announcements and having them with us here at Daytona (International Speedway). I wish we had a better result tonight in our Local Motors Tundra, but we’ll head to Atlanta next weekend and get right back to work. We have a long season ahead of us and I’m very happy with this group at Red Horse Racing.”
