Tyler Young looks for solid start to season at Daytona

If experience prevails, Tyler Young, driver of the No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado, has a successful sophomore season ahead of him in 2015. Young, who made 12 track debuts in his rookie season in 2014, heads into his second full-time season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) looking for his first top-10 finish. The Midland, Texas native amassed five top-15 and 13 top-20 finishes in his rookie campaign and capped off the year with a career-best finish of 11th at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet. The 24-year-old driver also posted three top-15 starts in 2014 including a career-best 10th-place start at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway (September).

Friday night’s NCWTS NextEra Energy Resources 250 will be Young’s second start on the famed 2.5-mile Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. In his debut in 2014, he started 17th when qualifying was cancelled due to rain and the field was set based on practice times, and ran as high as 10th before being collected in a multi-truck accident on lap 73 of 100 and credited with a 34th-place finish. At a track that’s seen three first-time NCWTS winners, Young would like to be the first Chevrolet driver to take the checkers in the 16th-annual event.

“I learned a lot in my rookie season. More than half of the tracks we raced at, I was seeing for the first time when I got there. This year, I’m looking forward to getting back to those tracks, building on what we learned last year, and contending for my first top-10 finish, and I think Daytona is a great track to start.”

 

“I learned a lot at Daytona last year. You’ve got to be able to put yourself in the right situation, be patient and then it all comes down to the end, and it gets wild. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions and anything can happen, at any time; it’s incredible. We had a really good run going last year; we were just a victim of the ‘big one.’ All I know is, it’s time to get back to the track and I’ve never been more ready to go.”
