Timothy Peters Collected in Early On-Track Incident; Battles Back to 19th-place Finish at Phoenix

Timothy Peters started the 150-lap race at Phoenix International Raceway from the 10th position; however, contact from another truck caused serious damage to the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra, relegating him to a 19th-place finish. Following introductions and as drivers made their way down pit road to their race trucks, the lights around PIR inexplicably went out. After an hour delay, track officials were able to get the lights to remain on and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race was underway. Peters had logged enough laps under his belt to ascertain the handling and report it to the No. 17 team, when a competitor driving on his inside and made hard contact with the red and white machine, sending it into the outside retaining wall on lap 27. Receiving heavy damage, Peters drove to pit road for the first of many visits for the necessary repairs. Throughout the remainder of the race, the Danville, Virginia resident patiently regained positions while his team used every opportunity possible during routine pit stops to make additional repairs and improve the Tundra’s balance. On lap 126, the lights went dark around the one-mile facility once again. NASCAR officials declared the race complete, awarding Peters with a 19th-place result.

Timothy Peters Quote:

“That was by far one of the strangest races I’ve run. I know that a lot of people’s first thought was of when this happened at Gateway (Motorsports Park) in 2010. That night the race was postponed until the next day, so we were really happy to see the green flag tonight. Unfortunately our night didn’t go as we had hoped. It was just rotten luck. The No. 23 got loose, and we were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The No. 17 guys worked really hard to make the repairs to keep us in the race. We were just a little too tight there at the end to make up any more ground. We’ll put this one behind us, and look forward to next weekend’s finale at Homestead (Miami Speedway).”
