Kyle Busch Looking to Deliver More Treats to Toyota

Kyle Busch returns to the seat of the No. 51 ToyotaCare Tundra for Friday night’s WinStar World Casino and Resort 350 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth for his eighth of 10 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts this season. ‘Rowdy’ will be looking to deliver Toyota its 16th Truck Series victory of 2014 and help the world’s top automaker clinch its seventh Manufacturer’s championship in the series. Toyota needs one of its 10 drivers entered in the 147-lap event to finish seventh or better to put the finishing touches on this year’s title.

Since joining the Toyota Racing family in 2008, Busch has played a key role in four of Toyota’s six Truck Series Manufacturer’s Championships. Despite running a limited schedule, the Las Vegas native contributed three wins to the 2008 championship and then led the series in wins in Toyota’s championship years of 2009, 2010 and 2013.

Rowdy opened the 2014 season with wins in each of his first five Truck Series starts and despite starting only eight of the 19 races this season, once again leads the series with six wins. The owner-driver’s six victories this season combined with a pair of wins from Erik Jones in the No. 51 Tundra and three wins from Darrell Wallace Jr. in the No. 54 Tundra give Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) a total of 11 wins in 2014. If KBM can tally another triumph this season, they would tie the Truck Series record for wins by an organization, set by Ultra Motorsports in 2001 when Ted Musgrave (seven) and Scott Riggs (five) combined for 12 wins for the two-truck operation across a 24-race schedule.

KBM is also chasing its third owner’s championship since debuting in the Truck Series for the 2010 season. The No. 51 team are the reigning champions and with three races left on the 2014 schedule, have a four-point lead on the No. 88 team. The team had fallen all the way to fourth after Busch was relegated to a 24th-place finish when he suffered a flat tire late in the race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. Since then, Jones has helped catapult the team back to the top of the standings with top-10 finishes in each of his last five starts, including a win at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway. Jones also helped fine-tune the Dollar General Tundra at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway, where he practiced the truck for Busch’s win in the “Windy City.” The No. 54 team also remains in the mix for the owner’s crown, currently fourth in the standings, 26 points out of the lead.

When Busch tackles Texas in his Tundra on Halloween night, he will be outfitted with KBM-021, a Tundra that he has won three times with on mile-and-half tracks already this season and overall the truck has six wins across eight career starts. ‘Rowdy’ will be looking to deliver KBM’s lucky seventh career win with ‘Blackjack’ and then go knocking on Toyota’s door and treating them to another Manufacturer’s championship trophy.
