Second-Place Finish for Timothy Peters at his “Home” Track, Martinsville

Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra team finished second in Saturday’s Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. Growing up in nearby Providence, North Carolina and residing in Danville, Virginia, Martinsville Speedway is very much “home” to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series veteran Timothy Peters. Following their first win of the 2014 season last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, Peters and the No. 17 team unloaded at the Martinsville, Virginia track with confidence and momentum. Starting from the second position, Peters remained in the top 10 while battling a slightly tight-handling condition, especially on short, green-flag runs. While under caution at lap 103, crew chief Marcus Richmond called Peters to pit road for four fresh Goodyear tires, a full tank of Sunoco fuel, and air pressure and wedge adjustments. With seven trucks electing to remain on the track during the caution, he restarted from the 11th position and within 20 circuits, broke back into the top five. In the closing laps, Peters picked off positions to take the checkered flag in second, earning his sixth top-five and 12th top-10 finish at the famed half-mile race track.

Timothy Peters Quotes:

“We had a great Toyota Tundra this weekend thanks to all of the guys at Red Horse Racing. We had a truck that was a little tight on the short runs, and good on the longer ones. Had the race stayed green and was about 10 laps longer, I think we could have gotten past Bubba (Wallace) for the lead. We have great momentum going now with a top-five at Las Vegas (Motor Speedway), the win last weekend (at Talladega Superspeedway), and a second-place finish here at Martinsville. This is a great way to go into the last three races of the season.

“I had my wife and son here [at Martinsville Speedway], and was hoping to get to Victory Lane, but it was really cool to see Bubba (Wallace) carry the Wendell Scott Toyota Tundra there. At least a Danville (Virginia) native was represented there [in Victory Lane] today.
