Dakoda Armstrong Supports JDRF at Mooreland Fair, Testing During Off Week

Though competition in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) has come to a halt for the week, 20-year-old driver Dakoda Armstrong and his ThorSport Racing team have a full schedule on tap during the break from the track. Amidst testing and preparation for the Grand Opening at the new ThorSport Racing facility, Armstrong will also be doing his part to support The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), an organization that has always been close to his heart. Armstrong’s four-year-old cousin, Jayden, is among over 215,000 children and adolescents in the United States diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. “It is not cool to have diabetes,” said Jayden.

Armstrong and one of his NCWTS sponsors, Drive For Savings, have chosen to give back to an organization that works so hard to find a cure for so many children like Jayden. On Monday, August 8, Armstrong made an appearance at the Drive For Savings display inside the Mooreland Fair, signing autographs for fans and raising awareness for JDRF. Drive For Savings will be at the fair near Armstrong’s hometown of New Castle, Indiana, all week, promoting their discount cards for sale.

To further help the cause, every purchase of a Drive For Savings card either online or at the fair through August 14th will go towards helping fund research to cure Juvenile Diabetes through JDRF and to support Armstrong’s other favorite foundation, the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF).

“This disease has to stop and we need to find a cure,” Dakoda explained. “Drive For Savings is doing a great thing by donating funds from the sales of the Drive For Savings cards now through August 14th to JDRF and UMDF. I’m proud to have them as a sponsor and I’ll do whatever I can to help.”

Also on Monday and Tuesday of the off-week, crew chief Dan Stillman and the No. 98 Ferrellgas/Agrisure/Drive For Savings team made a trip to the pull down rig in Mooresville, North Carolina with the chassis they plan to run at Michigan. Following the team’s return to Ohio, Armstrong will be testing at Sandusky Speedway on Thursday and Friday to round out the busy week of preparation. Stillman and his driver will be working on communication with each other and the rest of the team at the test, as well as comfort inside the truck for Armstrong.

“The biggest things we’re going to work on are getting used to what I think is loose or tight, what I feel when Dan makes different adjustments and work on our relationship so we can communicate better on what adjustments I need during the race,” Armstrong described.

The entire ThorSport organization will have an activity-packed week leading up to the next on-track competition next weekend at Michigan International Speedway, first traveling to Cedar Point amusement park for its “World of Wheels” event on Tuesday, August 16th. The very next day will mark the Grand Opening of the new ThorSport Racing shop in Sandusky, Ohio, where all drivers and team members will be on-hand for interviews, the official ribbon cutting ceremony and interaction with fans from noon-6 pm EST.
