Mechanical failure relegates Weller to 30th-place finish in Talladega

Jimmy Weller and the No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet Silverado team finished 30th on Saturday afternoon at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.  After racing inside the top-20, Weller suffered a mechanical failure to end his day after just 26 laps.  Unable to make it to the checkered flag, Weller was scored with the 30th-place result.

Debuting new partnerships with MyVideoLibrary’s Media Search Engine (www.myvideolibrary.com/jw08) and Weller-Hughes General Contracting and Developing, Weller had an exciting race weekend throughout practice and qualifying.  The rookie contender finished practice in the 19th position and qualified 18th for the 250-mile race.  With the balance of his truck nearly perfect, Weller focused on working on his drafting skills throughout the weekend.

In Saturday’s race, Weller spent the opening laps listening intently to his spotter and moving around the three lines of traffic as instructed.  Racing inside the top-20 for most of the opening 25 laps, Weller was waiting patiently for the right time to make his move through the field.  Shortly thereafter, Weller noticed that his truck appeared to be lacking the horsepower that it initially had in the race.  Within a few short laps, Weller visited pit road under green for his Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet Silverado team to raise the hood.  Finding what appeared to be terminal engine damage from a mechanical failure, Weller had to retire from the event after just 26 laps.  As a result, Weller was credited with a 30th-place finish.

“Our No. 08 Geneva-Liberty Steel Chevrolet Silverado was good all weekend,” commented Weller.  “My SS Green Light Racing team built a great superspeedway truck, and my spotter did a great job keeping me out of trouble.  It’s really unfortunate that we had an issue, because I think we were in a good position to bring home a solid finish.  We hope to get in one more run this season, but if not, I’m really excited for what 2015 has to offer.”
