Unfortunate Night for Germán Quiroga at Chicagoland Speedway; Finishes 19th

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams arrived to Chicagoland Speedway for the 15th race on the 2014 schedule on Thursday, Sept. 11. The teams had two practice sessions on Thursday, where they made laps around the 1.5-mile race track under sunny conditions. The No. 77 team struggled initially, commenting about the bumpy conditions of the race track, and finished the first practice session ninth. After making the necessary adjustments, Germán Quiroga found his stride and posted the sixth-fastest lap time during the final practice. Qualifying was cancelled due to inclement weather on Friday afternoon, putting the No. 77 NET10 Wireless team in the eighth position for the start of the race based off of practice speeds. Rain continued to fall throughout the day, postponing the start of the NASCAR 225 until Saturday evening. Once the green flag fell, Quiroga quickly found his rhythm, and remained in the top 10 for the majority of the 150-lap race. With less than 30 laps to go, the No. 77 sustained damage to the left-front side of the Toyota Tundra after making contact with a competitor who was entering pit road. Crew chief Butch Hylton made the call not to pit in an effort to stay on the lead lap. Quiroga was eventually forced to come down pit road under green-flag conditions after a tire rub from the incident cut down the left-front tire. The team made the necessary repairs for Quiroga to finish the race, ending his night in the 19th position.

Germán Quiroga Quote:

“We had an unfortunate night at Chicagoland (Speedway). We had a strong Toyota Tundra and I definitely thought we’d have a top-five finish. Sometimes you have nights like this, but we’ll put it behind us and focus on our next race at New Hampshire (Motor Speedway).”
