Jones Suffers Damage, Comes Home 20th at Bristol

Brandon Jones finished 20th for Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) in the rain-delayed NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The race got delayed from the scheduled start time on Wednesday night to Thursday morning. The weekend started off strong for Jones and the No. 33 Wolf Pack Energy Services team, as the 17-year-old was sixth quick in the only practice session. The young gun followed that up with a solid performance in qualifying, advancing to the final round of knockout qualifying and earning the 10th starting position for the race.

After the green flag dropped, Jones quickly settled in to the 12th spot looking to pick up spots as the race continued. Jones remained inside the top 15 until the competition caution flew on lap 50. Under the caution, crew chief Shane Huffman elected to bring Jones down pit road for four tires and fuel, along with a wedge adjustment. That caution would prove to be a game changer for the No. 33 team, as Jones was caught speeding while entering pit road. The ensuing penalty forced Jones to the tail end of the pack. When the race resumed, Jones went back to work looking to move through the field. While under green, Jones fell one lap down to the race leaders, but a caution flag on lap 112 gave him the opportunity he needed. Under the yellow flag, the No. 33 Wolf Pack Energy Services Chevy stayed on track taking the wave around and getting back the lap lost under green. Back on the lead lap, Jones was scored in 14th with less than 100 laps remaining. He held strong inside the top 15 until getting collected in another competitor’s incident on lap 147. The damage suffered wasn’t enough to put the No. 33 behind the wall, however, the Silverado didn’t have the speed it possessed before. Jones continued running on the lead lap and looking poised to bring home a top 15. This went by the wayside, however, as Jones suffered a flat tire in the races closing laps, putting the 17-year-old several laps down and relegating Jones to a 20th-place finish. Jones returns to the track for TSM in the ARCA Racing Series this weekend at Madison International Speedway on Sunday, August 24. His next NCWTS race for TSM is scheduled to be at Martinsville Speedway on October 25th.

Brandon Jones on his finish at Bristol:

“Well, that definitely wasn’t the finish we were looking for coming in to this race at Bristol. I really think we had a quick No. 33 Chevrolet and would’ve been able to run around the top 10 if we didn’t suffer the damage in the race. Unfortunately, that’s what happened; although we didn’t get the finish we were looking for with our No. 33 Wolf Pack Energy Services team, I still think it was a productive weekend. We learned a lot that we can take with us for our next Truck Series race.”
