Germán Quiroga Earns Top-15 Finish in the Second Mudsummer Classic at Eldora

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers arrived to Eldora Speedway early Friday morning, where Germán Quiroga would be competing for his second time ever on a dirt race track. The Mexico City native finished 20th there last July after qualifying 25th, and he was eager to put his rookie season behind him and improve upon his first showing at the Rossburg, Ohio race track. He spent both practice sessions adjusting to the race track and the team continued to improve the No. 77 NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra. He finished the first practice session in the sixth position and 21st in the second, due to the changing track conditions as the day progressed. Each driver made two qualifying laps in order to determine where they would line up for the heat races. Quiroga qualified 23rd, which placed him fifth in the fourth heat race of the night, where he earned a 24th-place starting position for the main event. Once the green flag dropped Quiroga found a groove on the race track where he was comfortable and rode around mid-pack while he learned his line. The 150-lap race was run in segments of 60, 50 and40 laps, but the NET10 Wireless team only came to pit road between the first and second segments. During the No. 77 team’s only pit stop they changed tires, refueled the Toyota Tundra, and made track bar and wedge adjustments. This improved the handling significantly and once the green flag dropped for the second segment, Quiroga found himself gaining ground. He moved as high as 10th before finishing the race in the 12th position. He’s currently fifth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings, 26 points behind the leader.

Germán Quiroga Quote:

“I’m really happy with our results at Eldora (Speedway) tonight. I think we improved a lot from last season, which was my goal when we came here tonight. Racing on dirt is totally new to me, so coming home 12th in our NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra feels like a good night. I’m really looking forward to going to Pocono (Raceway) next week!”
