Ryan Blaney BKR Iowa Post-Race

Ryan Blaney (@RyanBlaney22), driver of the No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150, scored a second place finish in the American Ethanol 200 Friday night at Iowa Speedway.  Blaney claimed his fifth top five in nine races this season and moved up to second in the NCWTS championship standings a gain of two positions, just two points behind the leader.  He claimed his third top 10 finish in four NCWTS races at Iowa.

Blaney started fourth and ran among the top four for the first half of the 200 lap race.  The No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150 was better on the longer green flag runs and Blaney took advantage, grabbing the lead on lap 104.  He was leading the race when the fourth and final caution waved on lap 127.  One lap later he and the leaders pitted for four tires and fuel.  Blaney restarted second when the race went green on lap 131.

For much of the final run Blaney was poised within striking distance of the leader.  His strongest challenge to take the lead came on lap 185 when Blaney made a daring move for the lead off Turn 2.  He jumped to the inside of the leader and a lapped truck, briefly stacking it three-wide.  Both Ryan and the eventual race winner got out of shape and Blaney wisely backed off to avoid potential disaster.  Unfortunatley, he was never able to get back in position to take the lead despite his best efforts.
