Austin and Ty Dillon Partner with ProShots Range to Teach Kids at Camp Hanes about Gun Safety
Richard Childress Racing drivers Austin and Ty Dillon are partnering with ProShots Range in Rural Hall on July 13 to educate children participating in the new shooting range at Camp Hanes about their passion for the outdoors and the importance of gun safety.
Austin Dillon, 21, drives the No. 3 Bass Pro Shop Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and his brother Ty Dillon, 19, drives the No. 41 RCR Chevrolet in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. They are the grandsons of legendary NASCAR team owner Richard Childress.
"Our grandfather and father spent many hours with us when we were growing up teaching us about the outdoors, wildlife, hunting and most importantly, how to be safe," said Ty Dillon. "It's important to pass these traditions and safe practices on to the next generation and encourage outdoor activities."
"My family has always taught me about safety, both when hunting and when I'm driving my No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet race truck," said Austin Dillon. "It's great that my brother and I have this opportunity to teach others about safety, and the outdoors. My association with Bass Pro Shops has allowed me to stress safety, conservation and a love of the outdoors to others and that's something that I really enjoy doing when I am not racing."
Camp Hanes added a five-stand shooting course, donated by the Budd family, to their long list of activities campers can choose when they attend this summer. Popular among campers, dozens have selected the new "shooting house" as their chosen activity at camp this summer. Campers that select the shooting course spend one hour a day practicing during their weeklong stay at camp.
"We greatly appreciate Austin and Ty Dillon's commitment to educating young campers about how to safely enjoy this sport," said Val Elliott, Executive Director of YMCA Camp Hanes. "The Shooting Course is a valuable experience at Camp Hanes that helps campers gain confidence as they learn more about the outdoors."
The Dillon brothers reached out to ProShots to host the event so that campers can continue their education and practice after their initial experience. The event will take place from 1-3 p.m. at ProShots Range at 1013 Bethania-Rural Hall Road in Rural Hall.
"ProShots is thrilled to team up with Richard Childress Racing, Ty, and Austin," said co-owner Ted Budd. "The Childress family means a lot to us in this community and thanks to awareness events like this, kids and parents will know how safe, fun and rewarding the shooting sports can be."
