John Wes Townley posted a 12th-place finish in the running of the Lucas Oil 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Dover International Raceway Saturday afternoon piloting the No. 5 Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra.
Due to rain canceling practice on Thursday the starting grid was set up by owner’s points, placing the Wauters Motorsports entry in the 11th-place position for the 200 lap, 200 mile race on the Monster Mile.
The Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra was fast from the start of the 200 lap race but Townley reported in that the truck was tight and running hot while running in the sixth-place position. Under caution on lap 79 the Wauters Motorsports team brought Townley down on pit road taking four tires and fuel.
On lap 89, while running in the seventh-place position, Townley reported in that he felt a vibration returning to pit road on lap 97 under the green flag. The tire changers gun had jammed on the previous pit stop causing the caps on the tire to become locked before the lug nuts were tight, resulting in the wheel to be loose. Thankfully, Townley felt the vibration and returned to the race in the 18th-place position.
Townley rebounded driving the No. 5 Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra to a 12th-place finish in the Lucas Oil 200 at Dover International Speedway.
“We really had a pretty decent truck, but it was tight all night,” John Wes Townley said. “Unfortunately, the loose wheel kept us from another top-five finish for Zaxby’s, Wauters Motorsports and Toyota. Not much you can do with an equipment failure and it could have ended up worse. We’ll head to Texas next weekend and see if we can get another top-five start there.”
Townley will compete Sunday at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards before meeting up with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team at Texas Motor Speedway for the running of the WinStar World Casino 400 Friday, June 6, 2014.
