Ryan Blaney Kansas Post-Race

Ryan Blaney (@RyanBlaney22) had an unfortunate ending to an otherwise strong performance at the SFP 250 at Kansas Speedway.

Blaney and the No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150 were fast from the beginning of practice on Thursday afternoon.  On Friday afternoon he qualified in second-place, just eight one-thousandths of a second behind the pole sitter.

Most importantly, Blaney’s Cooper Standard Ford F-150 was looking strong during Friday night’s race.  He and Crew Chief Chad Kendrick made a stop on lap 70 under caution for four tires and adjustments which appeared to bring the truck to life.

But a good finish was not meant to be.  On lap 86 Ryan was running second and battling teammate Joey Logano for the lead when Blaney’s Cooper Standard Ford F-150 wiggled off Turn 2 and did a slow spin up the Turn 2 banking.  Two oncoming trucks tried to squeeze between Blaney and the wall, walloping him in the left-rear and ending his night.

Ryan Blaney – Cooper Standard Ford F-150:  “We had a good Cooper Standard Ford F-150 and it was getting better.  It’s just unfortunate the way our night ended.”

Chad Kendrick – Crew Chief, No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150:  That stop (on lap 70) we were able to make adjustments and Ryan said that fixed it, that put it where it could really turn, he could really rotate and get off the corner and get a run.  He rotated down in Turns 3 and 4 and got a run down the straightaway and got up under Joey and felt like he, at that point, was better than Joey so was going to try to get around him.  He got a little tight on our quarter panel and Ryan got loose, bumped the wall and was going to be okay and a couple guys piled into us and messed the truck up pretty good.”
