Ben Kennedy NCWTS Preview: Homestead-Miami Speedway

Sunshine State…Ben Kennedy will return to his home state attempt to make his fifth career start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) on Friday, November 15 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This will be Kennedy’s first time at 1.5-mile track.

Kennedy’s No. 30 truck entry is not locked in on owner’s points and he will have to qualify his way into the race on time.  

 

This Week’s Silverado…This weekend the No. 30 Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) team will unload chassis TSM-218 at Homestead. The chassis has visited victory lane twice in its history: with Nelson Piquet Jr. at Michigan International Speedway (2012) and with Kyle Larson at Rockingham Speedway (2013). Kennedy’s most recent appearance in chassis No. 218 was at Chicagoland Speedway in September, where he finished 16th.  

 

Last Time Out…Ben Kennedy returned to TSM for his fourth-career NCWTS race, the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. After two practice sessions at the half-mile track, Kennedy qualified 14th for the 200-lap race. Kennedy remained patient throughout the event and worked his way towards the front. After avoiding late-race mayhem, Kennedy crossed the finish line in fourth, earning a top-five finish in just his fourth NCWTS start and his first race at Martinsville Speedway.

 

Watch and Listen…The Ford EcoBoost 200 can be seen live Friday, November 16 on FOX Sports 1, with coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST. The race can also be heard live on MRN Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio, channel 90.

 

Crew Chief Chris Carrier on Ben Kennedy and Racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“Homestead is a little bit more kind to rookies compared to a mile-and-a-half like Chicagoland [Speedway]. Homestead isn’t as fast as Chicagoland and the speeds fall off a lot more. Homestead is almost like a mile-and-a-half Rockingham, except it’s not as rough. There’s multiple grooves, which is better for a rookie like Ben because he will have several lane choices depending on what the truck is doing. Ben is a very good student of the sport and devotes a lot time to doing everything he can to be his best, so it’s just up to us to provide him with a great truck and make the best call from the pit box.”  

 

Ben Kennedy on Racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway:

“I’m looking forward to Homestead. I’ve watched a few DVDs of qualifying and races from the last few years at Homestead. Every time I’m in the truck, I’m building more chemistry with Chris Carrier and the guys. After a great finish at Martinsville, my confidence is up, and obviously that’s huge part of the sport. Otherwise, I just want to get the best finish I can for Florida Lottery and everyone at TSM.”
