German Quiroga: Red Horse Racing Talladega Superspeedway Team Advance

FAMILIAR TERRITORY: Germán Quiroga is ready for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Fred’s 250 presented by Coca-Cola at Talladega Superspeedway. The three-time Mexico Series champion made his Superspeedway debut at the 2.66-mile tri-oval last fall where he earned a career high finish of eighth. Quiroga has since captured two third-place finishes on intermediate tracks this season making history for the highest finishing position for a Mexican in a national division of NASCAR. Fighting hard to make a statement for the Hispanic community, look for Quiroga to be a threat behind the wheel of his No. 77 NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra in the 94-lap event on Saturday afternoon.

SUPERSPEEDWAY SWEEP: During the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, Red Horse Racing visited victory lane at both Superspeedway races on the schedule – Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway so the top-tiered organization is a threat to secure the checkered flag at race’s end.

HOMECOMING WEEKEND: Front-end mechanic on the No. 77 NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra, JR Norris has strong ties to Talladega Superspeedway. The son of a former NASCAR technical inspector, Norris grew up around the NASCAR industry. So much so, that when he was nine his father started him in go-karts. The Hueytown, AL native continued his driving career running the WKA Touring Series and winning the NASCAR Elite Division in 2007. He also competed in two Truck Series races in 2007.

Red Horse Racing Team Manager, Kevin Ray also calls Talladega Superspeedway home. The Eastaboga native was raised racing go-karts making his way into the ARCA Racing Series. In five races at Talladega Superspeedway, Ray’s best finish was fourth in 1995. Ray has been with Red Horse Racing since 2006.

JOINT VENTURE: An exciting combination will take place for the first time this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway with Germán Quiroga and his No. 77 Toyota Tundra team. NET10 Wireless and OtterBox will share primary sponsorship for four of the final five races including Talladega, Martinsville Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway. It’s a perfect pairing with the no-contract cell phone leader, Samsung Galaxy and the No. 1 selling phone case protector.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 77 NET10 Wireless Toyota Tundra team will unload Superspeedway Chassis No. 012 this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The chassis made its debut with Quiroga at the Truck Series season opener Daytona International Speedway.

REARVIEW MIRROR – LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY: Germán Quiroga was anxious to put on a great show in his No. 77 OtterBox Toyota Tundra at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Quiroga qualified for the Smith’s 350 in the 19th-place and battled with a snug Toyota Tundra for the majority of the race. Quiroga took a hold of the handling and was battling for a spot inside the top-10 with 30 laps to go. Fuel strategy played a major factor in the 146-lap race. With three laps to go on the final restart, Quiroga’s Tundra sputtered for fuel relegating the team to a 21st-place finish.

Germán Quiroga on Talladega Superspeedway:

What is it like to race at Talladega Superspeedway?

“Talladega was my first Truck Series race last year. I really enjoyed being there because it was my first time racing on a superspeedway. I think I learned a lot. I had a lot of fun and it was my first top-10 in the Truck Series. I know that is a place where if you work well with others, everything can come together on the last lap. With a little bit of luck you can finish well.”

How does it feel to go to a race track where you have previous experience?

“Last year, Talladega went well for me. We didn’t have a fast qualifying lap but we were really good in the draft. I enjoyed going back and forth – I didn’t know anyone in the series and it was my first time racing so I didn’t have that many drafting partners. Hopefully everything turns around. We are trying so hard. I think for Mexico, NET10 Wireless, OtterBox, Red Horse Racing, we deserve to do better. Hopefully those small issues are out of our way now and we can really just focus in on the win which is our main goal.”
