Ty Dillon Earns Fourth-Place Finish in the Desert

Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team earned a fourth-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after battling track position during the 146-lap affair. During qualifying on Saturday afternoon, the Richard Childress Racing team posted the fastest time granting them the pole position for the start of the Smith’s 350. Dillon led for the first 14 circuits around the 1.5-mile track before a caution flag slowed the field. The No. 3 team opted to pit for right-side tires and fuel during the caution period. He restarted fourth and began working his way back to the front of the field. The Welcome, N.C., native would assume the lead on lap 69. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called the 21-year-old driver to pit road under caution on lap 91 for their last stop of the night for four tires and fuel. As other teams took two tires, Dillon was shuffled back in the field to 14th for the ensuing restart. With laps winding down, Dillon didn’t have enough time to get back to the front, resulting in a fourth-place finish for the Bass Pro Shops team.

Start – 1           Finish – 4          Laps Led – 21          Points – 3rd

TY DILLON QUOTE:

“This one hurts. We had a really fast Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet this weekend. We started on the pole and had a truck that could have won, but we just couldn’t get the track position we needed. I hate it for these guys. They worked really hard. We’ll get another win before the season ends.”

Gaughan Gambles in Sin City to Finish Eighth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

After starting sixth, gambling with pit strategy and leading 15 laps, Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team finished eighth in the Smith’s 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Las Vegas native maintained a position within the top 10 during the early laps and gambled on pit strategy by staying on track during the first caution period of the night, restarting the race on lap 18 from the point position. Luck was on the side of the Richard Childress Racing team, as the caution flag was displayed on lap 47 just as Gaughan was about to make a scheduled green-flag pit stop. The crew was able to service the No. 62 machine with four tires, add fuel and make a chassis adjustment during the caution period, positioning the gold and black machine fifth for the ensuing restart. As green-flag racing resumed, Gaughan continued to maintain a position within the top 10, while battling a tight-handling Chevrolet, before regaining the lead on lap 75. Following a pit stop on lap 92 under caution for right-side tires and fuel, the RCR driver lined up in the fifth position and remained in the top 10 during the final laps as the handling of his Chevrolet Silverado transitioned from tight to loose, ultimately crossing the finish line eighth. Following the 17th race of the season, Gaughan remains 10th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 6         Finish – 8          Laps Led – 15          Points – 10th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:

“We had a solid run, but not the finish I was hoping for. The South Point Hotel & Casino crew was on it tonight, we just lost the handling of the truck at the end of the race. It would have been great to win at my home track, but we were able to lead laps and get a top-10 finish. After our run of bad luck lately, the team can be proud of our result tonight.”
