Much of Max Gresham’s life revolves around racing. Gresham always is on the go, with a 22-week racing schedule, appearances, media obligations and countless trips to the race shop and testing. When he needs to escape the hectic pace, the Sharp-Gallaher Racing driver likes to get away to the outdoors, especially to do some fishing.
“Fishing is just a way for me to relax. It gives me a chance to get away from everything and just decompress,” Gresham said. “I love the outdoors. Fishing allows me the time to enjoy everything, which I don’t always get to do with the schedule that we have.”
Gresham could not have picked a better place to launch his partnership with the Wally Dallenbach Jr. Foundation (WDJF), since Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the site of Gresham’s first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start.
As an avid hunter and fisherman, Gresham will be a strong ambassador for the Wally Dallenbach Jr. Foundation during Saturday’s Smith’s 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and for the season.
Gresham and his No. 8 Wally Dallenbach Jr. Foundation team enter the final stand-alone event of the season bringing a bit of extra luck to the Las Vegas tri-oval. That luck will come with the logo of the Wally Dallenbach Jr. Foundation adorning the hood of the No. 8 Chevrolet Silverado. The foundation is a non-profit organization specifically designed to give children who have lost a parent the opportunity to learn about the outdoors through hunting and fishing expeditions.
The Wally Dallenbach Jr. Foundation Chevrolet will feature a yellow and orange fading sunrise paint scheme with a hunting preserve featured in black on both sides of the truck along with the Wally Dallenbach Jr. Foundation logo.
“I’m always excited to go racing, and to have an organization as special as the Wally Dallenbach Jr. Foundation on the truck is really an honor for me,” said the 20-year-old driver. “It’s a cause near and dear to me, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to share and help support this mission.”
“My lifelong passion for the outdoors has been instilled in me by my family, and I would like to share that passion with others.”
Gresham will also honor the life of former competitor and family friend Beau Slocumb, who lost his battle with cancer on April 8, 2011. The truck will have a special neon orange No. 8 on the door – Slocumb’s car number during his racing career. The Milner, Ga., native honors Slocumb throughout the racing season on his gray helmet with the orange No. 8.
