Ross Chastain Iowa Post-Race Report

Ross Chastain (@RossChastain), driver of the No. 19 Harper Brush Ford F-150 for Brad Keselowski Racing (BKR), made his third start at Iowa Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series during the American Ethanol 200 Presented by Enogen Saturday night at Iowa Speedway after posting a solid fifth place qualifying spot, his highest start ever at the track.

Chastain ran into trouble early in the night, when he radioed in to crew chief, Chad Kendrick, saying he was losing power. Kendrick told Chastain to stay with it and once the caution fell he would bring him to pit road and check all possibilities of an engine failure.

Once the first caution fell on lap 56 for debris in turn two, Kendrick brought Chastain down pit road for fuel, four tires and two rounds up on the track bar. After Kendrick radioed in telling Chastain to come back down for a second time under yellow, the Harper crew was able to determine a valve train issue, which in turn would drop power from the No. 19 Harper Brush Ford F-150 the rest of the night.

The No. 54 brought out the fourth caution on lap 168 for a spin in the frontstretch. Kendrick brought the Harper Brush F-150 to pit road entering 12th and exiting 12th after talking fuel, four tires and one up on the track bar.

Chastain and his Harper pit crew fought every step of the way on Saturday night and even harder after the valve train issue on lap 17 for a disappointing 13th place finish after having a well-balanced Truck all night long.

The No. 19 BKR team now sits 10th in the NCWTS owner points standings, 74 points back from first.

 

“We did all we could do with the circumstances tonight. Not much fun when you lose some power on lap 17 and have to fight all night long for a 13th place finish. We are going back to the drawing board and gearing up for the next one.
