Cale Gale Brings Home Top-15 Finish in 2013 Debut at Kentucky Speedway
Cale Gale climbed back aboard a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) entry for the first time since his thrilling victory in the 2012 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. After finishing first in final practice, Gale went to work in the race to show that his victory last season was no fluke. Starting in the 18th spot, Gale quickly worked his way into the top 10. After a late-race restart, Gale sought to bring home a solid finish for his Rheem team, earning a 13th-place finish in his 2013 NCWTS debut.
During the two practice sessions earlier in the day Thursday, Gale was looking to knock the rust off and get comfortable with his No. 30 Rheem Chevrolet Silverado. It didn't take Gale long to knock that rust off as he finished on top of the scoring sheet for final practice. During qualifying, the sun started to peak out for the first time in the day and caused the track to get hot and slick. Like many of the others ahead of him, Gale battled a loose race truck and didn't get the lap he hoped for. Gale placed the Rheem Silverado in the 18th-qualifying spot for the UNOH 225.
Wasting no time at the start of the race, Gale quickly worked his way into the top 15 by lap 11. Gale reported back to crew chief Chris Carrier that his truck was starting to come to him as his fuel load started to burn off. Carrier took this into account as Gale brought his Rheem Chevy down pit road for service on lap 25. The Rheem crew made a wedge adjustment and gave Gale four fresh tires and a full load of fuel.
Pretty happy with his truck, Gale found himself up in the mix battling for a top 10 running position as the halfway mark drew near. When a timely caution flag fell on lap 79, Gale brought his Rheem Silverado back down pit road for tires and fuel. Gale kept reporting that his balance was good and didn't feel like he needed many chassis adjustments. Poised for the late-race run, Gale was running inside the top 10 with under 40 laps to go. Looking to bring the truck home with a solid finish for his Turner Scott Motorsports team, Gale kept focus and was able to stay in the top 15 with a 13th-place finish.
"It was great to be back behind the wheel tonight," said Gale. "I can't thank everyone at Rheem and Turner Scott Motorsports enough for giving me such a great truck for tonight's race. Chris [Carrier] and the guys worked really hard to get this truck prepared, and I'm really happy with our results tonight. I hope I get the opportunity to get back behind the wheel again soon."
