John Wes Townley: Red Horse Racing Kentucky Speedway Team Advance

BLUEGRASS STATE FOR AVID PIANO PLAYER: John Wes Townley takes his No. 7 Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra to the Bluegrass State this Thursday afternoon for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series UNOH 225 at Kentucky Speedway. Townley, an avid piano player is known for playing a good tune when he sits down to play. With three starts at the 1.5-mile speedway, Townley scored his second highest finishing position at Kentucky Speedway in 2012. The 10th-place finish gives the young driver hopes to top his career high eighth-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway he captured earlier this spring.

NEW AT ZAXBY’S: Zaxby’s, a southeast favorite for chicken fingers and wings, has been indescribably good for more than 20 years. The Athens, Georgia based chain offers its guests prepared-at-order Chicken Fingerz, Traditional or Boneless Wings, sandwiches, Zalads and Zappetizers, along with a variety of nine sauces ranging from Wimpy and Tongue Torch to Nuclear and Insane. Capturing the essence of a southern classic, guests can now enjoy Zaxby’s new Banana Pudding Milkshake for a limited time. It’s just the treat to complement Zaxby’s House Zalad, a popular menu item with mansion-sized flavor. The company operates more than 570 locations in 13 states. CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 7 Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra team is looking forward to Kentucky Speedway to race Chassis No. 009. Chassis No. 009 tied John Wes Townley’s career high finish of eighth at Charlotte Motor Speedway after earning his third highest Truck Series finish at Rockingham Speedway where he crossed the finish line 11th. Townley also collected a top-15 finish at Texas Motor Speedway.

MEET & GREET: Townley, along with teammates Germán Quiroga and Timothy Peters will visit the Toyota Pitpass Stage on Thursday afternoon in the Kentucky Speedway Midway at 3:00pm.

REARVIEW MIRROR – TEXAS: John Wes Townley had an 12th-place qualifying effort at Texas Motor Speedway and put himself in great contention early on in the WinStar World Casino 400. He battled a tight Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra for what seemed to be the majority of the race. Driving a smart and safe race, Townley collected a 15th-place finish and gained a lot of knowledge on the 1.5-mile track program. Townley’s finish moved him up one position in the driver point standings to 17th.

John Wes Townley on Kentucky Speedway:

You’ve got a lot of experience around Kentucky Speedway in three different series. What is the key to getting around the 1.5-mile track?

“Kentucky is one of those tracks that is really line sensitive. You have to find the right line to be able to run around there fast. You have to be patient too. There are places on the track where it’s really wide and you can do a little bit more racing. You don’t want to get too carried away early on in the race.

Will the 1.5-mile test at Texas Motor Speedway and then coming off of a top-15 finish, give you momentum for Kentucky?

“The race experience is what is important for our Zaxby’s Toyota Tundra team. Texas and Kentucky are totally different as far as driving styles go. It tends to be freer at Kentucky. Anytime you get more experience at 1.5-mile tracks it helps. The experience we have gained as a team, I think we’ve got a good shot at a solid finish.”
