He has had the privilege of traveling to races all across the state of Florida (as well as one race in Ohio), watching nearly everything with a motor compete for fame and glory, as well as participating in various racing schools to get the feel of what racecar drivers go through every week.

Overland Expo, the world's premier event series for do-it-yourself adventure travel enthusiasts, announced its first-ever ‘Ultimate Overland Motorcycle Build’ based on the 2021 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES DCT, which has been finished in Darkness Black Metallic — a new colorway for the 2021 model year.

 

Partnering with Honda Powersports, Overland Expo and its staff of seasoned and passionate overlanders will outfit the Africa Twin, transforming the already-capable adventure motorcycle into the Ultimate Overland Motorcycle.

 

Honda’s motorcycles are renowned for their toughness, reliability, and durability. Specifically, Africa Twin is one of the world’s finest adventure motorcycles. Real-world Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires drivers Braden Eves and Toby Sowery each claimed a victory this evening at a virtual WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, but sim racing expert Max Esterson extended his points lead in the TireRack.com Road to Indy iRacing eSeries Presented by Cooper Tires with just two races remaining.
 
Eves, from New Albany, Ohio, took control of the first of two 20-minute races. The 2019 Cooper Tires USF2000 Champion who races now for Exclusive Autosport on the next step of the ladder, the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, was chased home by his iRacing teammate Esterson, from Water Mill, N.Y., with Canadian Mac Clark finishing third.
 
Race Two wasn’t nearly as satisfying for Eves, who survived an incident while battling for the lead and had to be content with a fifth-place finish. Esterson escaped the carnage to run up front, only to be tracked down by Englishman Toby Sowery, who posted a sensational drive from 26th on the grid. Andre Castro, from New York, N.Y., completed the podium in third.
 
New Zealander Hunter McElrea (Pabst Racing) looked set for a strong event after setting the pace in unofficial practice and the initial qualifying session. But in the top-six final qualifying segment, which set the grid for the opening race, it was Eves who stepped up to secure his second SimMetric Driver Performance Labs Pole Award of the season.
 
McElrea, who started third, immediately made his presence felt by diving past Esterson into second. He then continued to pressure Eves hard until the pair came up to lap some slower cars at the infamous Corkscrew turn on Lap 12. The unfortunate McElrea spun while trying to seize advantage of the opportunity, which allowed Eves a relatively easy run to the finish and his second win of the year.
 
Esterson (Team Pelfrey) couldn’t keep pace with the leader but still finished a comfortable second, well clear of Clark (Team Gonella) and Turn 3 Motorsports’ USF2000 driver Josh Green, from Mount Kisco, N.Y.
 
Max Kaeser (NSDD), from Keystone, Colo., took fifth after a tremendous scrap with Canadian Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires driver Devlin DeFrancesco (Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport), Michael Myers, from Lizton, Ind., and Los Angeles-based Russian Nikita Lastochkin.
 
A solid 10th-place finish for teenager Will Salisbury, from Niagara Falls, N.Y., who earned his place on the grid by virtue of winning the most recent round of the World Karting Association Maxx Racing eSports Series, ensured he would start from the pole position for Race Two.
 
Unfortunately, an overly aggressive move from outside front row starter Bryson Morris, from Mount Juliet, Tenn., took both cars out of contention under braking for the Mario Andretti Hairpin on the opening lap.
 
De Francesco took advantage by sneaking through into the lead, where he remained until inadvertently tangling with Eves at the exit of the same corner on Lap 9. A close-following Esterson somehow sneaked through the carnage to take the lead, although Clark and Green weren’t so fortunate.
 
As Esterson escaped into the lead, a disbelieving Sowery emerged in third behind Eves, whose car had sustained damaged in the melee. Sowery, who will drive in Indy Lights this year for Juncos Racing, quickly slipped past into second, then rapidly closed down on Esterson before taking the lead into Turn Five with just a couple of laps remaining. After posting one of the drives of the virtual season, Sowery also deservedly took home the Sabelt Hard Charger Award – and a pair of Sabelt Hero racing gloves.
 
Morris worked his way back through the field to finish fourth after serving a drive-through penalty following his error at the start. Eves salvaged fifth ahead of Grant Palmer, from St. Charles, Mo., who kept his nose clean to secure his best result so far.
 
The champion’s prize of $2,000 plus one hour of simulator time with SimMetric Driver Performance Labs at each race on this year’s Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tire season will be determined one week from now on Wednesday, March 3, when the final two races are slated for another classic road course venue, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Toby Sowery (#51 m-start/Kumpf-Juncos Racing Tatuus PM-18): “After being taken out in the first race, I thought maybe a top-10 was somewhere we could get to but things just kept falling into place. I had the pace and it just all fell into place. I think I was able to pass Max [Esterson] in Turn Five. Honestly, I was too pumped thinking that I could win this that I don’t remember where the pass took place!”
 
Braden Eves (#91 MDRN Livery/Community Choice Financial/Huston Insurance-Exclusive Autosport Tatuus PM-18): “It started out really well getting the pole and leading every lap of the first race. It is always a little bit crazy with the reverse top-10 grid [for Race Two]. I started 10th and managed to avoid the carnage in Turn One. I got up to third and managed to pass Mac [Clark], and Devlin [DeFrancesco] was being really, really aggressive defending, parking it at the apex and getting good exits so it was really hard to get by. I tried to do a little fake right, go left and managed to get alongside at the exit of the corner but he just pinched me down a little bit and there was light contact that put him wide. From there, he just caught the dirt and spun into me. It was unfortunate, but I am happy with the result and decent points.”
The 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship campaign began on Friday, with the action set to be broadcast in more than 150 countries around the world.
 
Season 7 (2020/21) - Formula E’s first as an official FIA World Championship - will begin on February 26 & 27, lighting up the streets of Diriyah with a double header in the dark to kick off the season.
 
Ahead of the season starting, Formula E has agreed new or extended media partnerships with over 40 broadcasters, notably Seven.One Entertainment Group (SAT.1) in Germany, CBS in the US, Discovery (Eurosport) across Europe, Sky Italia in Italy, Cultura and Globo in Brazil and SuperSport in Africa.
 
The new partnerships will result in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship being broadcast in more than 30 languages around the world, with over 60 hours of live, and 40 hours of non-live programming per season.

Formula E’s partnership with CBS in the US will broadcast two races on free-to-air channels, with at least a further six E-Prix broadcast on the CBS Sports Network throughout Season 7 (2020/21).
 
From North America to South America, where the all-electric racing series will be live on Brazilian TV for the first time from Season 7 (2020/21). Cultura will provide free-to-air coverage with Globo (SporTV) showing all Formula E races on pay TV, in what is a key market for Formula E.  Across Latin America, Formula E is partnering with Claro to provide full season coverage on Claro Sport platforms.
 
In Germany, the long-term partnership with Seven.One Entertainment Group (SAT.1) will see every E-Prix available free-to-air across the country. There will be on-site coverage from each E-Prix with a presenting line-up including Andrea Kaiser, Daniel Abt and Christian Danner.
 
Across Europe, Discovery will utilise its extensive range of free-to-air, pay-tv and digital platforms to support the growth of Formula E. Live and on-demand coverage will be presented through its leading multi-sport brand, Eurosport, in more than 50 markets, available via its linear and digital channels as well as being introduced on discovery+*, Discovery’s global streaming product, to expand the reach of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship to the widest possible audience.
 
A multi-year agreement with Sky Italia will strengthen Formula E’s media coverage in Italy, complementing the free-to-air partnership with Mediaset. In addition to live qualifying and races on Sky Sports Channels and Channel 20, Sky will provide year-round editorial and news coverage across Sky Sports 24.
 
In the UK, an extended partnership with the BBC will see comprehensive, live, free-to-air coverage will air on BBC Red Button, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, with select races also airing live on BBC network channels, schedules permitting.
 
In France, all qualifying sessions and races will be available on L’Equipe’s digital platform, with options for races on L’Equipe’s linear channel, all supported by multi-platform promotion of Formula E covering print, digital and TV.
 
Formula E and SuperSport have announced a new, multi-year partnership to broadcast coverage live in more than 50 African territories. SuperSport will cover all of the races scheduled on the Season 7 calendar and fans will be able to watch each race and qualifying session live across SuperSport’s channels, app and website.
 
In the Indian sub-continent, this weekend’s season opener in Diriyah is scheduled on Star Sports Select 2 and Disney+ Hotstar, with highlights available on Disney+ Hotstar.
 
J Sports will continue to broadcast live coverage on pay TV in Japan, with BS Fuji picking up highlights of the action on free-to-air TV.
 
In China, Formula E and regional partner Enova have confirmed a series of streaming agreements for Season 7, including Sina Sports, Weibo, HUPU, HUYA, Tencent Sports, Youku, and KuaiShou.

The six-race short-track series airing this summer on Saturday nights in primetime on CBS features purpose-built racecars designed by NASCAR Hall of Fame crew chief and team owner Ray Evernham. Each will be powered by Ilmor’s 396 engine, a 700-horsepower V8 with 530 ft-lb of torque. Professional off-road racer and nationally syndicated radio host Jim Beaver brought his A game to his hometown Parker 250 last weekend, scoring a strong top 10 finish in the UTV Unlimited class in the opening round of the 2021 Best in the Desert season. Beaver’s first race in “Mona Lisa,” a former BITD class championship-winning car, saw him take the #2915 General Tire Polaris RZR to a strong seventh place finish, with the speed to contend for victory.
 
“When you come out of a race disappointed with a seventh place finish, it means you know your car is a contender,” said Beaver. “That’s where we’re at with ‘Mona Lisa’ and a fresh attitude for 2021. This was still a statement race for us, as we proved that we can win races this year, and we’re not going to be satisfied until we do. Thanks to everyone on the team, all of our sponsors and partners, and all the organizers. Kicking off the year with a good result at the hometown race is always a plus, and can only mean more good things to come!”
 
After the first two of four grueling laps on the always challenging Parker course, Beaver was in the UTV Unlimited class top three on corrected time. An unexpected mechanical issue forced the team to spend roughly 45 minutes on repairs, but Beaver returned to the track unfazed. When all was said and done, the stoppage time was the only thing that came between the team and a podium finish.
 
Prior to the event, the brand new #2915 launched with a three-minute clip featuring interviews with Beaver and his father, off-road racing champion Dan Beaver, about the family’s history in off-road racing, the significance of the town of Parker in the sport, and plenty of clips of the new car in action. Hitting the streets solo for the first time in the family minivan or SUV is a huge responsibility for a newly licensed 16-year-old driver.
 
Now imagine a 16-year-old making their IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut under the spotlight of one of the most illustrious sports car races in the world, the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
 
It happened a few weeks ago when a pair of drivers aged 16 contested the Rolex 24 in the No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports Ligier JS P320 in the Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) class: Mateo Llarena from Guatemala and Ayrton Ori, from nearby Orlando, Florida. Llarena is the older of the two teens; he celebrates his 17th birthday today, Feb. 26.
 
They’re still buzzing about their Rolex 24 experience, which resulted in a sixth-place class finish.
 
“The Rolex was the most fun and the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” remarked Ori. “One minute, you think you’re asleep, the next minute, you’re being woken up at 4 a.m. to get in a car and go 180 miles per hour. Everything feels so surreal because all these thoughts are running through your mind, and then you realize you’re about to go into Turn 1.”
 
Ori and Llarena were teamed with veterans Rasmus Lindh and Cameron Cassels. Cassels was behind the wheel of the No. 38 when it was taken off track by a GT Le Mans class car at the Bus Stop chicane.
 
The incident occurred about two hours into the race, and the Performance Tech Ligier spent 90 minutes in the garage while repairs were made. The drivers then had to deal with a balky clutch for the rest of the event. They still completed 687 laps, 70 fewer than the LMP3 class winner, the No. 74 Riley Motorsports Ligier.
 
Another of Ori and Llarena’s direct competitors in LMP3 in the Rolex 24 carried some unique parallels. Colin Braun was 16 years old himself when he made his IMSA debut in the same event back in 2005. Braun teamed then with two other 16-year-olds (Adrian Carrio and Brad Coleman) driving a Porsche 996 in the equivalent of today’s GT Daytona (GTD) category. Joined by veteran Ross Bentley, they finished seventh in class.
 
Braun has since carved out an impressive sports car career, amassing 18 IMSA race wins highlighted by a pair of class triumphs in the Rolex 24. The most recent came a year ago in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class.
 
This year, Braun shared the No. 54 CORE autosport Ligier LMP3 with Matt McMurry, Jonathan Bennett and George Kurtz. They finished fifth in class, one spot ahead of the youngsters half his age.
 
Now 32, Braun still enjoys fond memories of his rookie Rolex 24 run in 2005 – when Llarena and Ori were both less than a year old.
 
“My dad was a race engineer in many, many Rolex 24s, and I remember going as a 5- or 6-year-old kid and watching my dad engineer the Ferrari 333SPs back in the day,” Braun recalled. “I’ve loved that race since I was a little kid and thought it was so cool. 
 
“To get to that race as a driver at that part of my career and see it from the other side of the grandstand was incredible at 16,” he continued. “What an opportunity, and what an amazing experience. That was such a big race to do at that age.”
 
Like Llarena and Ori, most of Braun’s racing experience prior to entering the Rolex 24 was in small, single-seat formula cars. He believes that modern prototype cars including the LMP3 are much more similar to those open-wheel cars than the production-based Porsche he drove in 2005.
 
“I’d say there were a few more differences in how the car had to be driven,” Braun said. “You had to heel-and-toe downshift, and you really had to worry about taking care of the H-pattern gearbox and being nice to all the equipment. Today, even the LMP3 cars are solidly built and reliable and have paddle shift and all those things that let you just focus on your job of driving the car.
 
“I don’t want to say it’s easier, but it’s a different approach,” he added. “When we were doing it, you didn’t have the incredible speed that the DPi and even the LMP2 cars have now. Certainly, the traffic component was probably a bit easier when I did it. I’m sure a big part of the experience for them was working in and through the traffic.”
 
Asked what advice the Braun of today would give the 16-year-old version of himself – words that would serve Ori and Llarena as well – he replied: “The biggest thing is soak it in and enjoy it. I was so focused on trying to make a career and a name in the sport on the driving side of things. I probably didn’t enjoy the experience and take in all the coolness of what we were doing.”
 
Ori, who’s named after Formula One legend Ayrton Senna and sports a helmet modeled after another F1 great, James Hunt, seems to be doing just that. The teen’s appreciation for the history and culture of motorsport shines through on his Instagram feed (@ayrtonoriracing). His father, Keith Ori, was an aspiring racer who once qualified for the Skip Barber “Road to Indy” nationals and is now a house builder featured in “Zombie House Flipping” airing on A&E.
 
Diagnosed with a hormone growth deficiency at age 7, Ayrton Ori is a patient ambassador for pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, an arrangement similar to IndyCar driver and diabetic Charlie Kimball. 
 
Ori is hopeful that he and Llarena will be able to compete in all four IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup events on the 2021 WeatherTech Championship slate, including next month’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts, while he also pursues stock-car racing opportunities. He admitted that participating in his first Rolex 24 was an eye-opening experience. 
 
“I think I have some learning to do. With age comes maturity,” he said. “The older drivers have a lot of wisdom that they can teach me.
 
“I always imagined what it would be like to be in the race, and it didn’t disappoint,” he added. “I feel grateful and appreciative to have been part of it.”

BMW Motorsport and Andretti Formula E will remain connected after their joint works involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship draws to a close at the conclusion of Season 7. The final Formula E season for the BMW i Andretti Motorsport works team begins this weekend, but Andretti Formula E will return to compete as an independent team in Season 8 using the BMW Racing eDrive03 drivetrain in its cars once again. 

“We’re really pleased to continue competition with BMW Motorsport as a privateer team in Season 8,” said Michael Andretti. “As a works team, BMW i Andretti Motorsport has enjoyed shared success and we look forward to building on that as we continue on with Andretti Formula E. The BMW eDrive 03 drivetrain has proven to be reliable and competitive, and we look forward to putting it to work for another season.” 

“We are delighted to be able to continue to support Andretti Formula E,” said Mike Krack, BMW Motorsport Head of Test & Race Operations. “We are convinced that the BMW Racing eDrive03 will allow Andretti Formula E to achieve top results in Formula E. Working purely as a drivetrain supplier, we will no longer be involved directly in events at the racetrack in Season 8, but we will provide the team with support in response to any technical questions regarding the BMW Racing eDrive03.”

The BMW Racing eDrive03, which is being used in Seasons 7 and 8 as the BMW i drivetrain in Formula E, has benefited from detailed improvements when compared to its predecessor. Ahead of the current season, the drivetrain was homologated for another two years, meaning that it is available for the team to use for one more season. Thanks to experience gained over the past few years, it has been adapted to deal even more adeptly with the unique challenges posed by Formula E circuits. The main goal of the modifications is to improve the efficiency of the drivetrain. The E engine attains a maximum efficiency of 98 percent and its power density is higher than 14kW/kg. Its maximum rotational speed is more than 30,000 rpm. The inverter works with a direct current of up to 900 volts and achieves a power density of more than 45 kW/kg. In this latest version, the carbon inverter housing has been replaced by one made of Kevlar.

“The choice to continue with BMW as our powertrain supplier for Season 8 was an easy one,” said Andretti Formula E Team Principal Roger Griffiths. “Over the last two seasons with the works program it has delivered four wins, shown proven reliability and excellent efficiency. The team understands the operational aspects of the BMW eDrive 03 well and therefore the expectation is that Andretti Formula E can be highly competitive for the final season of the Gen2 era.”

As a charter team since series inception with Season 1, Andretti Formula E has competed in 69 events recording seven pole positions, 14 podiums finishes and four victories. Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship gets underway Friday in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.
