RFK Racing has announced the hiring of David Smith, a renowned statistical analyst within the NASCAR industry, as the team’s head of analytics.
“I’m excited to bring David onto the team,” said Brad Keselowski. “He brings credibility to analytics and data, and he will be critical to our team’s success as we embrace new technologies and processes in 2022 and beyond.”
Smith is the founder of Motorsports Analytics, a company that evaluates NASCAR driver and teams via advanced statistical measures. He has an extensive background working within the NASCAR media, and he has ties back to Keselowski when he served as a consultant for the driver during his 2012 Championship season.
Smith’s position with RFK will focus on cutting edge technology and analysis techniques for the organization, which will also extend to the pit crew department, and other applicable areas.
Dating back to 2012, he has worked with two NASCAR Cup Rookie of the Year drivers in Erik Jones (2017) and William Byron (2018), as well as 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Daniel Hemric, among others.
“It feels as if I’m on the ground floor of something genuinely special,” said Smith. “RFK Racing’s belief in the power of statistical analysis is inspiring. It’s my goal to ensure that belief is rewarded with the long-term results and accolades envisioned by RFK’s personnel, sponsor partners and fans.”
Prior to starting up his own company in 2012, Smith worked for six years at Rising Star Management Group as Business Development Manager and Director of Talent Development. He also worked one year at Spire Sports & Entertainment in a similar role, and prior to that served as Talent Scout and Client Manager at Motorsports Management International.
Smith’s time in the media center included work primarily on MotorsportsAnalytics.com, as well as bylines for NBC Sports, NASCAR.com, The Washington Post, Forbes, NBC News, Sports Illustrated, The Sporting News, Athlon Sports, RedBull.com and NASCAR Illustrated. He was also one of four day-one employees at the launch at The Athletic’s motorsports vertical in May 2019.
Trackhouse Racing today announced that the Moose Fraternity will join the organization as a primary partner on the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, driven by Ross Chastain in the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season.
The Moose Fraternity will serve as primary sponsor on Chastain’s Chevrolet at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on April 24, World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis on June 5, Richmond (Va.) Raceway on Aug. 14 and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Oct. 30.
Moose logos will appear on Chastain’s car as an associate sponsor in every race.
Trackhouse and Chastain will amplify the message of the Moose Fraternity to race fans through social media content and select events at lodges around the country.
Chastain is a member of Tice and the Shores, Florida, Lodge 1287 within the Moose Fraternity.
“I really enjoyed getting to know the team from the Moose Fraternity over the last few years and am honored to be a member of the Moose,” said Chastain.

The Moose Fraternity, headquartered in Mooseheart, Illinois, has a membership of nearly 1,000,000 men and women throughout the roughly 1,300 lodges across 49 states, four Canadian provinces, and Great Britain.
Members are involved in civic and charitable service in their communities, in addition to supporting the operation of Mooseheart Child City & School, a 1,000-acre community for children and teens in need, located 40 miles west of Chicago; and Moosehaven, a 70-acre retirement community for members near Jacksonville, Florida.
Members of the Moose conduct approximately $50 - $70 million worth of community service annually. The Fraternity organizes and participates in numerous sports, entertainment and recreational programs in local Lodges and Family Centers in the majority of 43 State and Provincial Associations, and on a fraternity-wide basis. Global manufacturers are once again finding IMSA the place to be to display their technology on the racetrack. For the second straight year, 18 OEMs – original equipment manufacturers – are set to compete across the six series sanctioned by the International Motor Sports Association.
The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship opens its 2022 season with its biggest and longest race, the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, which runs for the 60th time starting Saturday. Eleven OEMs are involved. A day earlier, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge kicks off its season at Daytona International Speedway with the four-hour BMW M Endurance Challenge featuring a dozen manufacturers.

IMSA also sanctions three single-make series and the IMSA Prototype Challenge. It all provides manufacturers, teams and drivers plenty of opportunity to shine. The list of participating manufacturers and programs for 2022, in alphabetical order, is as follows:
Acura – Fields two ARX-05 Daytona Prototype international (DPi) cars in the WeatherTech Championship, one each for Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian and Wayne Taylor Racing. WTR’s No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura is the defending Rolex 24 winner. The brand is also represented by Gradient Racing’s Acura NSX GT3 in the GT Daytona (GTD) class.
Alfa Romeo – Continues in the Michelin Pilot Challenge Touring Car (TCR) class with one Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR entered by KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering at Daytona. The manufacturer picked up its first victories in TCR last season, winning at Road America and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
Aston Martin – Has doubled its presence to four cars in the WeatherTech Championship and four in the Michelin Pilot Challenge. The Heart of Racing Team has one car in each of the WeatherTech Championship’s GTD PRO and GTD classes, with Magnus Racing and Northwest AMR each fielding a GTD entry as well. There are four Vantage GT4s entered in the Grand Sport (GS) class for the Michelin Pilot Challenge race, two for Automatic Racing and one each for NTE Sport and Volt Racing.
Audi – Competing with three cars in the TCR class of the Michelin Pilot Challenge at Daytona. Road Shagger Racing and Unitronic JDC-Miller MotorSports each field an Audi RS3 LMS SEQ, while NGP Motorsports has an Audi RS3 LMS DSG.
BMW – A longtime IMSA competitor with entries in the WeatherTech Championship and Michelin Pilot Challenge that’s sporting the new BMW M4 GT3 in 2022, a year in which the manufacturer is celebrating 50 years of its M performance brand. The WeatherTech Championship program finds three M4 GT3s in action, two out of the BMW M Team RLL stable in GTD PRO and the third for Turner Motorsport in GTD. Turner also operates two BMW M4 GT4s in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, with Random Vandals Racing entering a third GT4 at Daytona.
Cadillac – The premium brand from General Motors has the most entries of any WeatherTech Championship DPi manufacturer, with five Cadillac DPi-V.R machines set to compete in the Rolex 24 – two each from Action Express Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing and one from JDC-Miller MotorSports. The No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac from Action Express won the 2021 DPi championship.
Chevrolet – Races two of its most popular makes, one in the WeatherTech Championship and one in the Michelin Pilot Challenge. The Corvette Racing Corvette C8.R GTD is part of the new GTD PRO class in the WeatherTech Championship after winning the GT Le Mans title the past two seasons. One Corvette will race for the entire season, with a second entered in the Rolex 24. Meanwhile in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, Rebel Rock Racing runs a Camaro GT4.R.
Ferrari – A staple of sports car racing for decades, the Italian brand is represented in the WeatherTech Championship at the Rolex 24 by the Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE in GTD PRO and by AF Corse and Cetilar Racing in GTD. IMSA also sanctions the single-make Ferrari Challenge North America series that uses Ferrari Challenge 488 EVO machines.
Ford – The “blue oval” has four Ford Mustang GT4s entered for the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class opener, three from PF Racing and the fourth by Kohr Motorsports.
Honda – Returns to Michelin Pilot Challenge in 2022 with three Honda Civic FK7 TCR entries, the No. 73 from LA Honda World Racing, the No. 89 HART (Honda of America Race Team) Civic and the No. 99 operated by the Victor Gonzalez Racing Team.
Hyundai – Bryan Herta Autosport with Curb-Agajanian has captured the last three TCR championships in the Michelin Pilot Challenge and will seek a four-peat with an expected six-car armada of Hyundai Elantra N TCR entries. Van der Steur Racing is also back with a single Hyundai Veloster N TCR.
Lamborghini – The Italian manufacturer won the GTD PRO class in Sunday’s Rolex 24 qualifying race and will start on the pole for the 24-hour extravaganza with the TR3 Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3. There are also four Huracán GT3s entered in the GTD class, one each for CarBahn with Peregrine Racing, NTE Sport, T3 Racing and TR3 Racing. IMSA also sanctions the single-make Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series, with all entrants running the new Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 spec in 2022.
Lexus – Vasser Sullivan is fielding a pair of Lexus RC F GT3s in the WeatherTech Championship – one each in the GTD PRO and GTD classes this year.
Mazda – For the second year, IMSA is sanctioning the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires, the exciting entry-level series that saw more than half its 14 races last year decided by less than 0.6 seconds.
McLaren – The British marque has two entries in the WeatherTech Championship GTD class, one each for Crucial Motorsports and inception racing.
Mercedes-AMG – There are six Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars competing in the WeatherTech Championship, two in GTD PRO (both for the WeatherTech Racing/Proton USA team) and four in GTD (one each for Alegra Motorsports, Gilbert Korthoff Motorsports, Sun Energy 1 and Winward Racing). Winward is the defending GTD champion at the Rolex 24. There are also four Mercedes-AMG GT4 entries for Daytona in the Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class; three from Murillo Racing and the fourth for Capstone Motorsports.
Porsche – The winningest manufacturer in IMSA will be well represented again in 2022. The WeatherTech Championship will see seven Porsche 911 GT3 Rs in action at the Rolex 24 – three in the GTD PRO class (one each for KCMG, Pfaff Motorsports and WeatherTech Racing) and four in GTD (one each for GMG Racing, Hardpoint, Team TGM and Wright Motorsports). Porsche’s Michelin Pilot Challenge presence has grown substantially, with seven cars set for the GS class in Daytona – all racing the Porsche 718 GT4 RS Clubsport. Participating teams are Team TGM with two cars and BG Motorsports, Black Swan Racing, CarBahn with Peregrine Racing, GMG Racing and McCann Racing. On top of that, the Porsche Carrera Cup North America series returns under IMSA sanction after a successful 2021 debut for the single-make support series using Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.
Toyota – After joining the Michelin Pilot Challenge ranks in 2021, the manufacturer has upped its game significantly, growing from a single Daytona entry to five this year. Riley Motorsports, which launched the program a season ago, is back with two Toyota Supra GT4s in ’22. Joining them on the BMW M Endurance Challenge grid will be single entries from Forbush Performance, JG Wentworth by Infinity Autosport and Smooge Racing.
During the 2021 season, 10 of the 13 manufacturers competing in the WeatherTech Championship won at least one race. In the Michelin Pilot Challenge, 10 of 12 manufacturers won races during the year. It showed yet again that there’s no place better for an auto manufacturer to compete with the best than IMSA.
This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, January 27th through the 29th, Southern California Sprint car racing veteran Brody Roa will return to a track that holds a fond memory for him. The track is Arizona’s Cocopah Speedway and this week it hosts the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series’ first three races of the year. Ten years ago this coming June, Roa, then only 21 years old, scored his first-ever 410 sprint car win when the series raced on the same track.

Roa, who turned 31 today, first competed on the “Copper State” track in a 360-sprint car a month prior to his attention-grabbing initial 410 win. He has not been back to Cocopah since the series contested two races there in 2013. That makes it four races total for the friendly driver on the beautiful 3/8-mile racing facility that is 10-miles north of the Mexican border.
“Yeah, it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago,” the Garden Grove, California resident said when reminded how much time had passed since that first win. “Really it seems like just yesterday. From the same point, it seems like the last time we were at Cocopah (2013) was ages ago.”
Since that win, a lot has changed in sprint car racing and in the life of the now-married father of a 17-month-old little girl.
“Probably nothing,” Roa stated when asked what he can use from that win for this week’s races. “I am obviously a different driver the last nine or 10 years. The cars are different, and we are not even on the same tire anymore. But we found our notebook from 2012 and found out what gear we ran. So, I guess we will take something from 10-years ago to this year.”
Since the series has not been to Cocopah since 2013, all the drivers are pretty much coming into the event on a level playing table. In fact, many of the current drivers were not part of USAC/CRA when the troupe last appeared there. Roa is one of the drivers who remembers the track fondly.
“I did 10-years ago,” Roa quipped when asked if he liked the Cocopah track. “Really, I am excited to go back there. I have wanted to go back since the last time we were there. The last time it went rubber down on like lap three, so it was not a whole lot of fun that time. But the track itself is fun and the casino across the street is cool.”
The makeup of Roa’s #91R team will certainly be different this time around. The time he won there, it was a total family effort.
“When we won in 2012, it was just me, my dad, my grandpa, and my Uncle B,” Roa said. “Zac was not around (Zac Bozanich, now Roa’s award-winning crew chief) and I did not even know Joe (longtime crewman Joe Gibb) yet. It was just myself and my family.”
Roa goes into the 2022 season after a successful year in 2021. Of the 28 sprint car races he started last year, he won four of them, finished in the runner-up spot four times, and placed third six times. He ended up with 17 top-five finishes and 21 top 10s. The only series he ran for points in last season was the USAC/CRA Series where he ended up second in the championship standings.

GMS Racing is proud to announce its NASCAR Camping World Truck Series crew chief pairings ahead of the upcoming season. The two-time championship winning team plans to run two full-time entries in 2022, with the No. 23 driven by veteran Grant Enfinger and the No. 24 driven by Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Jack Wood.
Grant Enfinger's No. 23 Champion Power Equipment Chevrolet Silverado will be led by Charles Denike, who has two NCWTS victories under his belt. Charles spent nearly ten years in the US ARMY as an engineer before making the decision to chase after a career in motorsports. Denike has been a key part of the team since 2016, and most recently called the shots for Tyler Ankrum during the 2021 season. Notably, both of his wins as a crew chief have been delivered by drivers in GMS Racing Silverados at Charlotte Motor Speedway (Chase Elliott) and Bristol Motor Speedway (Sam Mayer).
"The 2022 race season is a great opportunity for Grant and I, and we both plan to make the most of it. We have assembled a new team and the energy is high. The Indoor Auto Racing Series NAPA KNOW HOW Gambler’s Classic weekend of racing, being held this weekend, Friday and Saturday January 28 & 29, inside Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall will be broadcasted live on Pay-Per-View through DirtTrackDigest.TV.

The NAPA KNOW HOW Weekend will begin for fans on Friday when the gates open at 6:30. Racing begins at 7:30 with heat races for all three divisions. The top 12 in afternoon time trials will then race in a special knock out session to see who owns the fast time award!
Friday’s program ends with the thrilling Triple 20 qualifiers for the headline TQ Midgets with all 50 plus competitors getting a shot a running one of the 20 lap event.
Saturday’s gates will open at 5 PM with the annual on-track Fan Fest being held until 6:15. Every car in competition will be spread around the speedway and fans with reserved seats will be allowed to that level to meet them.
Racing will begin at 7 PM with more heat races and B-Mains for the TQ Midgets along with features for the Champ Karts and Slingshots. The 40 lap Gambler’s Classic for the TQ Midgets will end the program in exciting fashion.
Good tickets are on sale in a range of prices through Ticketmaster. They will also be on sale through the event at the Boardwalk Hall Box Office, but they do increase by $5 the day of the events.
For everyone’s safety at the event, the state owned building will require fans to wear a mask when they enter Boardwalk Hall and be recommended when they are walking around the building. They will not be required to wear a mask when in their seat or when they are eating or drinking. Masks are not required in the privately owned casinos.
After this weekend’s Atlantic City’s events the series will conclude in Syracuse, N.Y. at the New York State Fairgrounds Exposition Center on Friday and Saturday, March 11 & 12. Those tickets are scheduled to go on sale on January 26th.

After a 2021 season that paid out over $100,000 contingency bonuses to drivers, Stafford Speedway’s Contingency Program will welcome American Sign, Inc. of New Haven, CT as a new contingency sponsor for the 2022 season. American Sign will contribute weekly bonuses of $75 to each Street Stock feature winner as well as $75 to each third place SK Light finisher. American Sign will contribute a total of $3,300 during the 2022 season with $1,650 each going to SK Light and Street Stock drivers.
President and CEO of American Sign, Tony Lafo, is a former Stafford weekly competitor who raced in both the Late Model and Street Stock divisions from 2003-2007 and 2009-2013. Lafo returned to Stafford last season as the pace car driver and that connection pushed Lafo to become a contingency sponsor for the 2022 season.
“Coming back to Stafford last season got me back into racing on a weekly basis and being a former racer and knowing what it costs and how difficult it is for teams to do what they do, I wanted to be able to help out,” said Lafo. “I really enjoy watching the SK Light and Street Stock divisions and sometimes they might not get the attention that the SK Modified® or Late Model divisions get. I got to know a lot of the drivers last season and the SK Light and Street Stock divisions have some of the nicest people you’ll meet and by doing a smaller contingency amount, we can support two different divisions instead of just one. I’ll be looking forward to hearing our name over the P.A. as I’m sitting in the infield in the pace car this season and hopefully next season we can do something even bigger and better like sponsoring a race.”
Last season saw 11 different SK Light drivers record a third place finish with Steven Chapman leading all drivers with 4 third place finishes. 9 of the top-10 drivers from the 2021 SK Light points standings will return to SK Light competition in 2022 while the 10th driver, Brian Sullivan, has registered a car for both the SK Light and SK Modified® divisions.
In the Street Stock division, defending track champion Frank L’Etoile, Jr. and Chris Meyer tied for the division lead with 5 wins each. Just behind them was Travis Hydar with 4 wins. Nick Hovey was the only other multi-feature winner last season with 2 victories while Kyle Johnson, Bert Ouellette, and Adrian Paradis, III each won a single race. With L’Etoile moving on to SK Light and Open Modified competition for the 2022 season, the race to see who will become champion is wide open.
