Two Undefeated Drivers at the Top of the ASA Member Track National Standings

The battle is on between two undefeated drivers competing at two different ASA Member Tracks.  So far this season, Shelby Stroebel has won all ten features in the ASA Modified division at Meridian Speedway in Meridian, ID while Lance Gatlin has won all eight Limited Late Model features at Lonesone Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA.

The two drivers sit at the top of this week’s ASA Member Track National Standings.  Stroebel has a slight edge over Gatlin with his average of 3.5289.  Gatlin’s average is 3.1536.

“This is a very rare thing to see in short track racing,” Dennis Huth, ASA President exclaimed.  “In all my years of being involved in short track racing, I cannot recall when I have heard of two drivers being undefeated this far into a season.  Congratulations to Shelby and Lance on their streaks.  Now, we will all watch to see how long their streaks will last. The other ASA Member Track competitors are within reach of joining the top two in the battle to be the 2012 National Champion.”

If you went back to last season, Stroebel’s win streak at Meridian Speedway is now up to 12 straight victories in the ASA Modified division.  His win streak will be tested this Saturday night with a 50-lap feature event.

Last Saturday, Lonesome Pine Raceway Promoter Harold Crook put a $350 bounty if anyone could beat Gatlin in the Limited Late Model twin feature events this past Saturday night.  Gatlin made sure that Crook held on to that bounty by winning both events.  Crook has now increased that bounty to $400 for this Saturday night.

While their win streaks have currently at the top of the leaderboard, it doesn’t mean that the other competitors should slow down their chase.  If both streaks were to come to an end, we could see a very tight battle overall for the National Championship.

Throughout the season, drivers competing in the premiere divisions at eligible ASA Member Tracks are in the running for the 2012 ASA Member Track National Championship.  In order to have a chance for the national title, a driver must first win their 2012 track championship.

Speednetdirect.com, for the fifth year in a row, will tabulate the National Championship standings.  Using a proprietary formula that creates an average based on wins, finishing positions, number of cars passed, car counts and events.  The driver who wins their track championship and has the highest average over the other ASA Member Track champions will win the 2012 ASA Member Track National Championship.
