ASA Member Track Competitors Showing Their Muscle This Season

Many ASA Member Tracks are reaching the halfway point of their 2012 season.  Some of the competitors are showing their muscle early while many ASA Member Tracks have welcomed a variety of winners in victory lane.

Some of the ASA Member Track competitors are off to a strong start with their dominating performances.  The question that many are asking is whether or not their domination will continue during the second half of the 2012 racing season.

Meridian Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Meridian, ID, has two drivers that are or were on a winning streak.

Shelby Stroebel, has won all ten of the ASA Modified features so far this season.  Going back to last season, his winning streak is at 12 victories.  He currently leads the ASA Member Track National standings.

Dylan Caldwell had his five-win streak come to an end this past Saturday night in the Late Model division.  Chris Fenton beat Caldwell to the line by 0.16 seconds in their first of two feature events.  Caldwell did come back to start a new streak, as he won the second feature.

Lance Gatlin won his seventh and eighth Limited Late Model features this past Saturday night at Lonesome Pine Raceway, an ASA Member Track in Coeburn, VA.  Gatlin even had a $350 bounty for any competitor to end his streak.  That bounty is now up to $400 next Saturday night.

Eddie Hoffman is dominating the Late Model division at Illiana Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Schererville, IN. He has won a majority of the feature events including his third Molenaar Classic in a row on July 7th and last month’s Elmer Musgrave Memorial.

Two generations are showing their muscle at Ace Speedway’s Late Model division halfway through their season.  Dustin Rumley, the 2010 track champion, already has three feature wins while Barry Beggarly, 2011 ASA Member Track National Champion and Ace Speedway Track Champion, has two wins.  Currently, Beggarly has a four-point lead over Rumley in the 2012 track standings.

JR Hotovy has won seven of the first ten UMP Late Model features at Hartford Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Hartford, MI.  He had a dominating night on July 6th when he won both the UMP Late Model and UMP Modified feature events.

Skagit Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Algers, WA recently saw some domination by their four drivers currently leading their respective point standings.  In fact, at their last event on July 8, 2012, all four won their main events.  Eric Fisher leads the 410 Sprints while Trevor Turnbull leads in the 360 Sprints.  Steve Parker sits at the top of the Sportsman Sprint standings while Freddie Vela leads the Outlaw Hornets. Turnbull has been the most dominant over the other three point leaders, while Fisher, Parker, and Vela are in tight point battles.

“We are watching some great racing action throughout our ASA Member Tracks this season,” Dennis Huth, ASA President said.  “We have a great variety with drivers dominating at some ASA Member Tracks.  The other tracks have some very wide-open competition with multiple winners.  Nonetheless, the racing has been exciting to watch so far this season. The second half will be more fun to watch as many will have championships that will go down to the final lap.”
